Department Summary:

MITRE's Air & Space Forces Center (A&SFC) works to deliver technical capabilities that meet Air Force and Space Force mission objectives, including critical needs in space warfighting, air operations, nuclear enterprise, cyber operations, integrated all-domain effects, and joint lethality in contested environments. The A&SFC supports critical Air Force organizations from headquarters and secretariat Air Force offices through the acquisition centers, major commands, and operational units. Additionally, we partner with and support the United States Space Force to protect and defend current space assets, build more resilient and defendable architectures, and develop offensive capabilities to challenge adversary space capabilities. We value deeply our shared heritage with the Department of the Air Force built on more than six decades solving some of the toughest challenges facing our nation. A&SFC is seeking to hire highly motivated recent undergraduate and graduate entry-level Systems Engineers to help solve these challenges.

Roles and Responsibilities:

The selected individual will be responsible for:

Generating, decomposing, and reviewing system requirements for current and future United States Air Force (USAF), United States Space Force (USSF), and Department of Defense (DoD) systems and systems-of-systemsModeling system requirements, behaviors and interfaces through Digital Engineering processes and tools to highlight dependencies, efficiencies, opportunities, and risksSupporting systems development, analysis, and testing.Developing and evaluating system designs and architectures, including through scenario driven analysisDeveloping technical prototypes to convey opportunities, gaps, and risks to MITRE sponsors, end users, and stakeholders.Authoring and contributing to technical papers and presentations that can communicate such activities as architecture designs, Analysis of Alternatives, informational presentations, and technical analysis.Collaborating with other engineers across MITRE’s organizations in order to coordinate development efforts, bring the expertise of others to bear on projects, and to ensure common standards of product quality.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in Systems Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics, or similar field with less than 1 year of related experienceAbility to obtain and maintain a minimum of a  (DoD) Secret clearance.Understanding of principles of systems engineering (or ability to learn) and approaches for evidence-driven decision making.Apply knowledge and principles of engineering analysis or data science disciplines to support recommendations to address customer challenges.Committed to continuous learning, innovation and engineering excellence.Strong collaboration and communications skills

Preferred Qualifications:

Active DoD SECRET (or higher) Security Clearance.At least one year of industry experience with exposure to range of systems engineering lifecycle activities (requirements, design, development, testing, deployment, sustainment).Academic or industry experience with Digital engineering modeling tools such as Cameo, MSoSA or Rhapsody.Requirements management tools such as IBM rational DOORS.Master’s degree in Systems Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics, or similar field with less than 1 year of related experience
