GD Technical Consultant (External Business Title)
Integration Engineer (Internal Title)

Job purpose

The role of the Global Delivery (GD) Technical Consultant resides in the functional area of post-sales services.

Specifically, the Technical Consultant provides basic implementation support on HDS products involving software, at the customer site, including pre-requisite checklists, initial installation, troubleshooting, implementation, customization, integration and “hands on” training.

The Technical Consultant works closely with GD Project Management, Solution Architect, other GD Technical Consultants, and the customer to ensure a smooth implementation and transition from project kick-off through integration/testing/production mode to project close.

For this position at HDS, in-depth knowledge of storage architecture SAN and NAS design and administration are required to succeed. You will install, administer, configure, and deploy effective Storage solutions. You must be able to support and troubleshoot problems in a multi-fabric SAN and NAS environment. Zoning and partitioning skills are required, and knowledge in data migration technology is required.

Responsibilities

• Always represents HDS in a professional manner to the customer.
• Seeks advice or assistance from GSS management and/or Technical Support as required during difficult customer situations.
• Works in conjunction with other HDS GSS colleagues to ensure effective resolution of technical issues encountered during implementations.
• Proactively alerts customer and manager of potential problems based upon strong working knowledge of software and hardware compatibility within the customer's environment.
• Adheres to proper GSS alert and escalation procedures.
• Works closely with the Solution Architect team to understand the design and implementation service.
• Assist in the development of implementation services with the Solution Architect Team.
• Implements work plans associated with a statement of work (SOW)
• Accountable for all service deliverables defined in an SOW and assumes responsibility for any issues.
• Attends planning sessions as required to provide technical input to better define the scope and deliverables for a service.
• Acts as the customer contact point during a service implementation for the escalation of issues and works with the customer and HDS support organisations for a resolution.
• Participates in meetings with task groups or clients to resolve issues and define a plan of action.
• Prepares, maintains, and submits activity/progress reports and time recording/management reports in accordance with published procedures.
• Keeps Project Managers informed of activities, alerting of any issues promptly.
• Maintains awareness of existing or potential customer software and machine issues. To that end proactively alerts customer and manager of potential problems based upon strong working knowledge of software and hardware compatibility within the customer's environment.
• Installs all HDS software products in a Mainframe and/or Open Systems hardware environment as appropriate to the skillset required at the direction of the GSS Project Manager, Solutions Architect or Engagement Manager.
• Prepares, maintains, and submits activity/progress reports and time recording/management reports in accordance with published procedures.
• Keeps Project Managers informed of activities, alerting of any issues promptly.
• Completes end-of-project reports and handover documentation as required and identified in the SOW.
• Liaises with and follows /utilises the GSS Project Management policies and procedures associated with GSS deliveries.

Profile

• 5+ years of technical consulting experience
• At least 5 years of customer-facing experience consulting on enterprise-class applications
• Certification or in-depth experience in SAN and or NAS storage design
• Certification or in-depth experience in HDS SAN and or NAS components
• Experience with HDS storage hardware and software preferred.
• Experience with SAN, NAS and storage systems from EMC, HP, SUN, Dell, NetApp, and IBM desirable.
• Experience with applications and databases desirable
• Experience in operating systems administration across UNIX and Windows required. Mainframe is desirable.
• Experience in virtual platform technology e.g., VMWare
• Experience with network design
• Good knowledge of ITIL and working within the framework

Competencies

• Deep and broad technical knowledge of storage products and solutions and the overall IT environment. Knowledge of HDS products and services is preferred.
• Good experience in network technology, including switches/routers, LAN / WAN, and networking connectivity.
• Experience in installing and maintaining software and database.
• In-depth knowledge of SAN and NAS design methodology
• Knowledge of storage layout characteristics for performance, sizing, and planning
• In-depth knowledge of data migration, consolidation and disaster recovery methodologies and their application
• Ability to relate well to senior management, client management and technical personnel.
• Ability to think strategically and act as a facilitator.
• Excellent analytical and communication skills
• Ability to speak authoritatively on storage technology and related subject matters.
• Technical background sufficient to understand the technologies and technical issues involved with storage products.
• Ability to define problems, to collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions
• Strong ability to translate very complex storage solutions or strategies into simple to understand clear concepts and objectives for project execution.
• Be able to present clearly when required.
• Interpersonal skills will include independence, team player ethos, adaptability and self-confidence. He/she should be self-motivated, a self-learner, customer oriented, resourceful, enthusiastic, passionate about technology and should welcome a challenge in the context of an exciting and leading-edge storage technology environment
