Associate Translations Specialist (Japanese patent content)
We are looking for an Associate Translation Specialist to join our Japanese content translation team in Clarivate Penang CoE, Malaysia. This role utilizes subject matter expertise in technical fields such as engineering, biomedical, life sciences, pharmaceutical & chemistry to perform machine translation post editing and proofreading of patent contents, translating patent inventor & assignee names as well as translating trademark applicant & agent names to ensure that the patent & trademark contents contain the most precise, pertinent, and up-to-date information.
About You – experience, education, skills, and accomplishments
Bachelor’s degree, preferably in STEM.Native level in Japanese (JLPT N1 or N2 certificate holder) as well as professional working proficiency in English.Excellent written and verbal communication skills.Detail-oriented, thorough, accurate, able to meet deadlines, and able to work quickly and steadily in a focused manner to achieve organizational goals.Demonstrate initiative, persistence, ability to problem solve, and enthusiasm for learning.Strong ability to multitask, prioritize, and work independently with minimal supervision.It would be great if you also have…

Review, edit, and evaluate machine translation output and language resources to optimize translation quality.Translate or perform machine translation post editing and proofreading of patent contents, mainly from Japanese into English.Conduct quality assurance checks for translation of assignee & inventor names of Japanese patent applications, and translation of applicant & agent names of Japanese trademark applications.Manage and maintain translation linguistic assets, including customer and industry-specific glossaries and translation memories, as well as create and update glossaries as needed in daily operations.Manage customer cases assigned by the customer service desk and operational requests for translation enhancement, allocate retranslation/enhancement requests and manage any associated updates to the master dictionaries and translation memory.Monitor translation quality within given deadlines, customer and subject area specificities, internal procedures and templates, quality standards, and KPIs.Participate in continuous improvement and corrective and preventive actions to reduce customer or internal complaints, improve efficiency, and mitigate risks.Participate in creating an inspiring team environment with an open communication culture and a team spirit.Undertake any other reasonable duties as requested by the team lead on a permanent or temporary basis.About the Team
The translations teams in Penang, Malaysia mainly perform machine-assisted translations on patents from Japan/China/South Korea patent offices. The Japanese content translation team consists of 13 members reporting to the team lead, and we provide translations and contents for Clarivate’s key products such as Derwent Innovation, CompuMark & Cortellis. We support effective management and champion continuous improvement of our quality-driven operational workflow and practices, providing value-add insight and oversight of the names data like no others.
Hours of Work
This is a full-time permanent position with normal working hours (Monday – Friday, 8:30 AM – 5:30 PM). Out of working hour meetings may occur occasional to meet other teams from different time zones.
