This position has the flexibility of a hybrid remote option with two days in a TTI Texas based office. This can be discussed further during the interview process. + The salary range for position is commensurate. Final salary will be determined based on the applicant's qualifications and experience. Job Summary The Associate Transportation Researcher is responsible for conducting research in a support role while developing the skills needed to eventually lead research and develop new business opportunities. Specific duties include reviewing literature, coordinating and collecting data, analyzing data, writing reports, planning research activities, preparing and delivering presentations, writing journal articles, and others. Continued employment in this position is contingent upon availability of funding and satisfactory performance. Essential Duties and Responsibilities + Perform applied research duties, including data collection, analysis, and coordination. Plan, schedule, and report detailed phases of research and development projects. Evaluate and document data collection requirements and activities. Coordinate data gathering activities and gather data needed for research tasks. Assemble, organize, document, and archive datasets. Develop data models and simulation-based traffic simulation models. Synthesize data and extract meaningful statistics and trends. Develop and/or run applications to conduct the research. Analyze and develop potential new techniques, policies, procedures, and recommendations. Communicate, and coordinate with multi-disciplinary teams comprising research staff, graduate and undergraduate students, and support staff to ensure the completion of research objectives and timely delivery of high-quality project deliverables. (60%) + Compile, document, and present results in formats required for inclusion in reports, technical memoranda, and presentations. Prepare technical documentation, including data collection, analysis, and summaries. Prepare project reports and other deliverables as required. Prepare materials for presentation of research results and other deliverables at technical meetings or other venues and to sponsors. (30%) + Assist researchers with proposal development. Prepare and give presentations to existing and potential sponsors, academic settings, or conference settings. Prepare, schedule, conduct, and document research meetings. (5%) + Performs other related duties as assigned. (5%) Required Education and Experience Master’s degree in civil engineering or related field. One year of relevant experience. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Knowledgeable in various research and testing methodologies Well-versed simulation-based modeling including mesoscopic and microscopic simulation tools In-depth knowledge of traffic operations, traffic flow theory and operational planning Ability to document research studies, write reports, specifications, and test procedures, including the use word processing, spreadsheets, databases, and similar software. Ability to develop, implement and monitor budgets and resources. Ability to meet deadlines and deliverable due dates. Other Requirements Work beyond normal business hours and/or work on weekends. May be required to work in hot, cold, and extreme weather conditions. Travel may be required. Preferred Qualifications Specific expertise in simulation-based modeling using multi-resolution modeling methods. This type of research includes specialized knowledge of mesoscopic and microscopic modeling tools. Experience in dynamic traffic assignment (DTA) including model development, calibration and validation using DynusT or other related DTA modeling software. Solid background in microscopic simulation modeling including VISSIM and Synchro. Physical Requirements Ability to perform common office functions. Ability to frequently communicate with other individuals within the workplace. Ability to operate a computer and other office productivity machinery. Ability to drive State vehicle for data collection purposes.
