Job Description
JOB DUTIES:
Conduct research in a support role while developing the skills needed to eventually lead research and develop new business opportunities.
Perform applied research duties, including data collection, analysis, and coordination.
Plan, schedule, and report detailed phases of research and development projects.
Evaluate and document data collection requirements and activities.
Coordinate data gathering activities and gather data needed for research tasks.
Assemble, organize, document, and archive datasets.
Develop data models and metadata.
Synthesize data and extract meaningful statistics and trends.
Develop and/or run applications to conduct the research.
Analyze and develop potential new techniques, policies, procedures, and recommendations. Communicate, and coordinate with multi-disciplinary teams comprising research staff, graduate and undergraduate students, and support staff to ensure the completion of research objectives and timely delivery of high-quality project deliverables.
Maintain communication internally among the research team and external sponsors.
Compile, document, and present results in formats required for inclusion in reports, technical memoranda, and presentations.
Prepare technical documentation, including data collection, analysis, and summaries.
Prepare project reports and other deliverables as required.
Prepare materials for presentation of research results and other deliverables at technical meetings or other venues and to sponsors.
Assist researchers with proposal and business development.
Prepare and give presentations to existing and potential sponsors, academic settings, or conference settings.
Prepare, schedule, conduct, and document research meetings.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENT:
Minimum Education required: Master’s degree in Transportation, Public Policy, Economics, or related field. Equivalent combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.
Minimum Experience required: One (1) year (12 months) of experience as a research analyst or data collector working on transportation issues.
ALTERNATIVE REQUIREMENTS:
Alternate Education required: Bachelor’s degree in Transportation, Public Policy, Economics, or related field. Equivalent combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.
Alternate Experience required: Three (3) years (36 months) of experience as a research analyst or data collector working on transportation issues.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Must include at least one (1) year of experience with: Providing public safety education, conducting traffic surveys, or collecting data; recording data; and using statistics to analyze data; forecast and model economic trends; clean and analyze data to support economic and revenue analysis; Microsoft Excel; PowerBI or R.
*Partial telecommuting 3 days a week within the state of Texas is permitted.
