Description:
The Associate Vice Chancellor is responsible for ensuring that university security, safety programs and protection programs including crime prevention; campus patrol; investigations; crime reporting and case management; and disaster preparedness are effectively managed and contribute to the overall safety and security of the campus.
Primary Function of Organizational Unit:
The North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University Police Department ( UPD ) includes a staff of over 70 sworn and non-sworn personnel and an additional 20 employees, organized into several areas: Office of the Chief, Administrative Services, Support Services, Patrol, CID (Criminal Investigations Division), K-9, Crime Prevention, Community Policing, Telecommunications, Accreditation, University Security and Contracted Security.
All commissioned officers are certified police officers in accordance with rules established by the North Carolina Criminal Justice Education and Training Standards Commission; have successfully completed training and passed the Criminal Justice Education and Training Standards licensing exam; and are in compliance with the Commission’s mandated in-service training that is required on an annual basis.
Requirements:
Requires Master’s degree in Criminal Justice or Public Administration and at least five years of progressively responsible experience in higher education campus Public Safety, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. If a bachelor’s is the terminal degree, seven years of experience is required. Must have excellent communication skills as well as administrative, organizational and supervisory skills. Must be able to handle sensitive issues in a diverse community.
Preferred:
Ten years of law enforcement experience with at least five years in a command or supervisory position. Must demonstrate an ability and desire to work collaboratively with campus constituencies and local, state and federal law enforcement agencies.

This position may be eligible for a remote or hybrid work arrangement, consistent with university and state policies. N.C. A&T employees are generally required to reside in North Carolina, within a 2-hour commuting distance of their assigned duty station.
