Associate Vice President - Electrical

Job Description:

Overview:

The Associate Vice President leads the Electrical and Instrumentation Group, overseeing planning, design, and execution of complex electrical and control systems projects. This role provides strategic direction, ensures technical excellence, and fosters strong client relationships. The successful candidate will demonstrate leadership in project management, technical design, business development, and mentorship of staff, with a strong focus on water/wastewater infrastructure and similar facilities.

Responsibilities:

● Lead and manage the Electrical and Instrumentation Group, including staff development, resource planning, and strategic initiatives.

● Provide technical guidance during client meetings and estimate level of effort for electrical design tasks.

● Independently manage complex engineering projects from inception through completion.

● Oversee the planning and design of electrical systems including power distribution (medium and low-voltage), lighting, grounding, lightning protection, fire alarm, and other low-voltage systems.

● Direct the design and specification of control systems including network architecture and process instrumentation.

● Prepare detailed electrical and control schematics.

● Perform generator sizing, load calculations, and system coordination studies.

● Lead field inspections and system startups, ensuring alignment with design intent and operational performance.

● Develop and review project-specific technical specifications in accordance with CSI MasterFormat.

● Ensure project delivery on schedule and within budget.

● Prepare technical documentation including basis-of-design reports, status reports, project manuals, and response memos.

● Participate in client presentations, interviews, and other business development opportunities.

● Accurately estimate electrical construction costs at various phases of project development.

● Foster a culture of collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement.

Qualifications:

● Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related field.

● Professional Engineer (PE) license required, with the ability to obtain additional state licensure by comity.

● Minimum of 15 years of experience in electrical engineering design, with at least 5 years in a leadership or management capacity.

● Proven project management experience; PMI PMP certification preferred.

● Strong understanding of permitting processes and coordination with utility providers.

● Proficiency in electrical power systems analysis tools (e.g., SKM Power*Tools, ETAP, Easypower).

● Familiarity with lighting design software (e.g., AGi32, Visual).

● Experience with PLC-based control systems and control network design.

● Strong technical writing and verbal communication skills.

● Demonstrated ability to lead large, multi-disciplinary project teams.

● Deep knowledge of National Electrical Code (NEC) and relevant construction regulations.

● Additional experience with vertical facilities (vehicle maintenance shops, labs, offices, aviation-related structures).
