Texas A&M University San Antonio is seeking a dynamic and strategic leader for the role of inaugural Associate Vice President (AVP) for Student Affairs Campus Services. The AVP plays a key role in overseeing and enhancing vital services that contribute to a vibrant campus environment supporting student life and student success, while ensuring operational efficiency and financial sustainability. The AVP will collaborate with various university stakeholders, ensuring that auxiliary services align with the University’s mission, values, and strategic goals.
Reporting to the Vice President of Student Affairs, the Associate Vice President for Student Affairs Campus Services is responsible for providing strategic leadership, oversight, and management of a broad portfolio of campus auxiliary services, including the day-to-day responsibilities of dining services and bookstore management, and supervision of university housing, recreational sports, and an inaugural student union in the future.
Salary: $120,000 annually / Non-negotiable
Responsibilities:
+ Develop and implement strategic plans for student auxiliary services that align with the University’s overall mission and vision.
+ Ensure the continuous improvement of auxiliary services by developing innovative programs and initiatives that enhance student experience and campus life.
+ Monitor and analyze key performance indicators (KPIs) to evaluate service quality, efficiency, and financial performance.
+ Collaborate with senior leadership to align auxiliary services with institutional priorities and campus growth initiatives.
+ Oversee the management and operation of key auxiliary services, including dining services, bookstore, university housing, recreational sports, and other related essential services.
+ Develop, manage, and monitor operating budgets and contracts for all auxiliary service units, ensuring fiscal responsibility, sustainability, and to ensure required debt service payments.
+ Develop business models that provide high-quality services while maximizing revenue generation and cost-effectiveness.
+ Negotiate effectively for the University to ensure the best possible terms and results from contractors and vendors that provide the best possible services for students and staff.
+ Develop and enforce policies and procedures for the efficient operation of auxiliary services, ensuring compliance with university standards and state/federal regulations.
+ In partnership with the Division of Student Affairs, works collaboratively with divisional initiatives to ensure that processes and other decisions impacting students are aligned with student needs and priorities.
+ Collaborate with Division of Student Affairs, University Facilities, academic units, etc. to identify and prioritize campus improvements to support and enhance operational efficiencies that improve the student experience through the integration of auxiliary services.
+ Engage in regular communication with students, staff, and other stakeholders to gather feedback and implement necessary improvements.
+ Manage and lead a team within the auxiliary services departments, including fostering a collaborative and inclusive work environment.
+ Performs other duties as assigned.
Required Education and Experience:
+ Bachelor’s degree in Higher Education Administration, Business Administration, Facilities Management, or a related field.
+ Ten years (10) of progressively responsible management experience, including some supervisory experience.
Preferred Education and Experience:
+ Terminal degree in Higher Education Administration, Business Administration, Facilities Management, or a related field.
+ Experience managing university housing, dining, bookstore, recreational sports, and student union operations.
+ Experience in financial management and contract negotiations.
+ Strong leadership and organizational skills, with the ability to lead teams.
+ Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to cultivate and maintain strong relationships across campus.
+ Ability to innovate and improve service delivery in a university or similar setting.
+ Familiarity with sustainability practices and green initiatives within auxiliary services.
+ Knowledge of relevant laws and regulations impacting auxiliary services in higher education.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
+ Generally supervises.
+ Knowledge of word processing and spreadsheet applications.
+ Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others.
+ Oral and written communication skills.
