General Description (Purpose and Function): The Assistant Director of Tutoring Programs provides leadership and oversight of the planning, coordination, outreach and problem solving related to the Peer Tutoring Program at the Camner Center for Academic Resources. Reporting directly to the Director, Learning Support Programs, this position is a member of the Camner Center’s leadership team and actively contributes to the Center’s mission of providing innovative programming and quality services to support learning and academic success. This position has direct supervision and leadership responsibilities for the Tutoring Program with one professional staff member, 2-3 graduate students, 12 lead tutors, and 100-150 peer tutors. The position oversees the operation of services provided for approximately 3000 students receiving tutoring for 240+ courses, and an average of 5000+ completed appointments per semester. The Assistant Director is responsible for tutoring services and related resources within the Camner Center, and its satellite operations in the Learning Commons at Richter Library. Primary Duties and Responsibilities: Peer Tutoring Program + Provide direction and leadership for the Peer Tutoring program. + Supervise staff including the Senior Tutoring Coordinator, graduate students, lead tutors, and peer tutors. + Plan, organize and evaluate all daily operations of the tutoring program. + Lead projects using data driven results to implement programming. + Engage in the typical responsibilities of a supervisor requiring planning, evaluating, organizing, integrating, and controlling. Responsible for involving tutor staffing, conducting performance appraisals for these students, training and developing tutors, salary, terminations, disciplinary actions, etc. as it relates to the Peer Tutoring Program. + Ensure compliance with organization policies and procedures as outlined in the student worker handbook. + Revise, update, and create policies for the tutors and students using the Camner Center services. + Conduct tutoring training each semester. + Supervise the CRLA certification process. + Monitor the quality of tutoring across all subjects and tutors. + Collaborate with faculty and departments. + Develop programs to improve the quality of tutoring and tutor training based on research-based practices. + Review, analyze, and evaluate program support systems and methods; makes recommendations as appropriate for enhancement or change. Assist director with strategic planning by generating ideas, conducting research, and facilitating implementation. + Responsible for all communications with tutors, lead tutors, and tutoring staff. + Monitor the quality of customer service through collaboration with other departments to recruit potential tutors and resolve challenges with the delivery of quality tutoring services and/or management information. + Uses tutor tracking program and spreadsheet software to develop reports under general instruction; able to perform moderately complex analysis of report information. This includes scheduling tutors, analysis of data available, usage reports, tutor certification and tutee satisfaction reports. Uses discretion in maintaining/adapting current information. + Provide Director and Executive Director with a comprehensive report at the end of each year summarizing tutoring statistics, usage, demographic information, and other information requested by the director. This requires data collection and analysis using software packages. Data interpretation and comparisons using basic statistical programs are required. + Assist in making decisions about future programming based on the yearly report. Peer Tutoring Human Resource Management + Responsible for the hiring process to maintain a workforce of 120-150 tutors per semester. This includes screening, review of resumes, interviews, and recommendations. Inputting and verifying time sheets and resolving pay disputes between student workers and payroll. + Comply with all University HR policies for tutors to ensure adherence with legal regulations, procedures, and expectations. Completes promotions, stipend, or salary increases in accordance with departmental policy for tutors. + Manage, train, supervise all direct reports. + Conduct performance evaluation process of tutors and direct reports. Peer Tutoring PR/Marketing + Develop and implement a marketing plan for tutoring, review sessions, and outreach to underrepresented groups. + Responsible for planning and attending all University events as a representative of the Camner Center tutoring program. These include but are not limited to Orientation and New Student and Prospective Student Fairs. + Develop materials and programming to improve the visibility of the Camner Center tutoring program at university events and among undergraduate students. This includes working with the RA/RC in the residential colleges. + Stay current with trends and research in academic support and developmental learning. This may include attending CRLA and other tutoring organization conferences periodically. + Responsible for establishing relationships with student organizations, campus housing, student activities, and other groups to target on and off campus students. + Budget responsibilities include monitoring spending, projecting expenditures for tutoring, and implications for student wage increases. + Meet with students and parents to provide academic support services.
