Athletic Trainer - La Porte High School - Full time 

KNOWLDEGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Applied Knowledge: Athletic trainers must possess knowledge on a large range of injuries and illnesses. Injury prevention, assessment and evaluation skills and working with a team of other healthcare professionals is paramount to successful patient care.Decision-Making Skills: Have the ability to think critically, improvise and problem-solve at all points of patient interaction and when completing organizational/athletic training clinic managerial duties.Attention to Detail: Should be detail oriented and thorough in injury tracking and documentation.Interpersonal Skills: Must have the ability to communicate effectively with patients, medical professionals, and parents/guardians in high stress situations. Must be able to communicate effectively in written form as well.Must have the ability to organize and perform multiple tasks with little or no supervision.

SPECIFIC DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Develop plans for providing athletic training coverage at interscholastic athletic events and practices.Establish and maintain a budget for athletic training supplies/equipment and carryout the bidding and ordering process with school personnel (e.g. athletic director, treasurer, etc.).Establish athletic training clinic operating hoursDevelop and do annual updates for a venue specific emergency action plan.Develop an athletic training student-aid program if requested by the school and follow state
guidelines and laws regarding athletic-training student-aides.Establish a working relationship with the medical director, the school nurse, and other healthcare professionals within the community.Complete Advance Learning Center courses for the hospital as assigned and any other training required by the school or hospital.
Maintain thorough medical records on all injuries and rehabilitation procedures.Comply with organizational policies, uphold the NATA code of ethics, stay up-to-date on best practices within the profession of athletic training, and pursue continuing education in order to maintain credentials and to fill in weaknesses in professional practice.Provide CPR/AED training to coaches as requested.Attend and participate in monthly athletic training meetings and be willing to share ideas on how athletic trainers can continue to help the community.Provide schools with services that meet the standards of the NATA Safe Sports School Award.

Education: 

 Requires a minimum of Bachelor Degree from an accredited professional athletic training education program. Master’s Degree preferred.

Certifications/Experience: 

 Board of Certification (BOC) required Requires an Indiana License to practice Athletic Training CPR certification required within 6 months of hire. CPR Instructor certification required within 6 months of hire
