Atlantic Medical Group 2025 Summer Nurse Externship
The Atlantic Health System Nurse Externship Program is for junior students obtaining their Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing (preferred) or an Associate of Science degree in nursing. Our five hospitals and ambulatory sites include Morristown Medical Center, Overlook Medical Center (Summit), Chilton Medical Center (Pompton Plains), Newton Medical Center, Hackettstown Medical Center, and Atlantic Medical Group (over 450 locations). The goal of the Nurse Externship Program is to allow rising senior nursing students to learn about the role of the professional nurse, while being precepted by specially selected nurses. Nurse Externs will be assigned to a specific unit for the entire externship. Although we will do our very best to accommodate unit preferences, placement will be ultimately determined by unit availability. Externs should be open to exploring the unit they are placed even if it was not their first choice. Assignments will be received just prior to the start of the program. Externship Details: + Timeframe: 8-week experience starting June 2nd, 2025, and ending July 25th, 2025 + Opportunity for continued employment after the externship as a per diem Patient Care Technician, Nursing Assistant, or Secretary/Technician + Shifts: May include days, nights, and weekends (must be flexible) + Work requirement: Three 12-hour or five 8-hour shifts working side by side with preceptor(s). Shift times may vary depending on unit placement. + Vacation time: Vacation is not permitted during this 8-week period. + Pay: Bi-weekly paycheck at a rate determined by Atlantic Health System Under the guidance of a certified preceptor, externs will be able to: + Observe the professional role of the Registered Nurse + Learn and enhance critical thinking skills + Build confidence by practicing and delivering basic nursing care, skills, and competencies + Develop nursing and time-management skills Requirements include: + A minimum of a 3.0 GPA + Two letters of recommendation from Clinical Instructors/Professors + BLS certification + Interviews will be scheduled during Winter break between the Fall and Spring semester *Once you speak with the recruiter, you will send your required documents.
