ATSU - Director of Development

A.T. Still University (ATSU) is seeking a full-time exempt Director of Development on the Mesa, Arizona campus.  The purpose of this position is to raise major and leadership gifts for the University through the identification, qualification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of prospects and donors. This includes directing all activities associated with securing major gifts for ATSU from alumni, parents, friends, foundations, and corporations. This position will also assist in project management as assigned by the Assistant Chief Advancement Officer or his/her designee.


Duties & Responsibilities:

Maintain a portfolio of 100-125 major gift prospects and personally manage the identification, cultivation, solicitation, recognition, and stewardship of those prospects.Develop and continue existing strategies, and implement programs to realize gifts for the University with special emphasis in the area of major gifts. Major gifts are defined as gifts and pledges receivable of $25,000 or more.Develop an annual contact and solicitation plan from the assigned portfolio and coordinate the plan with the Assistant Chief Advancement Officer.Serve as the liaison between the UA office and the Dean of CHC or as assigned by the Assistant Chief Advancement Officer.Work collaboratively with other gift officers to achieve personal and team fundraising goals as identified by the Assistant Chief Advancement Officer and reviewed weekly and quarterly as a team.Provide support to ATSU Alumni Relations and ATSU donor engagement programs as assigned.Establish and maintain files/databases on donors/gifts in conjunction with ATSU’s central data management systems. Utilize ATSU’s “Moves Management” system to update prospects CRM records.Assist in identifying and writing donor impact stories for University publications.Match University needs as identified in the ATSU Strategic Plan with the interest of potential donors.Work cooperatively with the advancement team, University officers, faculty, and fellow ATSU employees to accomplish goals and complete tasks requiring a team effort.Maintain working knowledge of estate plans/bequests, corporate & foundation giving, and annual fund strategies.Represent the University at conventions, campus activities, certain alumni events, fundraisers, etc.Host and entertain visiting ATSU alumni/friends. Travel as required to cultivate and secure major gifts.Complete other duties as assigned by the Assistant Chief Advancement Officer Advancement or his/her designee. Requirements Four-year college degree in Business, Communications, or Liberal Arts.Should have experience with all methods of charitable giving. Experience in communications/successful interaction with others (donors, board members, and associates). This experience should include planning, developing, initiating, presenting, and monitoring a university-level giving program.Skill at working with prospects and their advisors toward the successful negotiation and closing of major gifts.Ability to work congenially in a multifaceted academic institution.Strength in written/verbal/interpersonal communications.Operation of office equipment. Computer literate.Terminology and a working knowledge of the charitable gift process.Knowledge regarding the law associated with 501(c)3 organizations and general fund-raising principles is required.Should know how to use software affiliated with development programs.Higher education and/or healthcare experience is highly desirable.Commitment to/and knowledge of health education institutionsProven record of communicating/working with individuals and other entities to achieve successful desired results.Driven to achieve success.Flexibility and friendliness. High integrity and ethics.Maturity and good judgment.Ability to attend evening and weekend events and functions.Ability to travel (40% of the time) all across the country.
