General NotesThe Office of Sponsored Projects (OSP) serves as the coordinating office for externally funded research and sponsored projects at The University of Texas at Austin. The mission of OSP is to assist faculty and professional research staff in their efforts to secure and ensure proper stewardship of external funding. We do that by assisting research faculty and staff with the following: proposal review, authorization, and submission; award negotiations and acceptance; account management; close-out, reports, audits, collection; professional development and education; export control, and research compliance.

PurposeTo support the research community at the University of Texas at Austin in capacity of Audit Manager for the Office of Sponsored Projects (OSP), provide audit assistance over the externally funded activity on the Post-Award team within OSP, and provide support to the Director of Post-Award
ResponsibilitiesAUDIT MANAGEMENT AND OVERSIGHT
Leads and coordinates audits related to sponsored projects, including the federal Single Audit, Cancer Prevention Research Institute of Texas (CPRIT) annual audit, and various sponsor, state, local audits and/or desk reviews.
Prepares and reviews audit documentation, respond to audit inquiries, and ensure timely submission of required reports.
Collaborates with research administrators, principal investigators, and UT units (Accounting, Procurement, etc.) to resolve audit and compliance responses and issues.
Communicates complex regulatory and audit concepts to a variety ofstakeholders in a clear and actionable manner.
COMPLIANCE AND RISK MANAGEMENT
Ensures compliance with Uniform Guidance, federal and state regulations, sponsor-specific guidelines, and institutional policies.
Monitors effort reporting, subrecipient compliance and manage subrecipient monitoring activities in alignment with federal regulations.
Analyzes audit findings, identify systemic issues, and recommend process improvements in collaboration with the Director of Post-Award.
SUPERVISION OF CENTRAL SUPPORT TEAM IN GRANTS FINANCIAL MANAGEMENT
Supervises two (2) staff members. One (1) is responsible for functions such as institutional audits and subrecipient monitoring and one (1) oversees effort reporting and training to the research community.
Provides direction and oversight to the support team in these areas.
Required QualificationsBachelor’s degree.
Five or more years of professional experience in research administration or a related area with three or more years in a grant management level position.
Three or more years of professional experience in working with internal and external auditors and knowledge of preparing audit responses.
Strong demonstrated supervisory and communication skills.
Experience using financial systems or fund accounting systems.
Ability to identify and implement process improvements, think critically and make decisions, ability to problem solve through strategic planning.
Ability to interpret and ensure compliance with federal, state and University policy.
Must be eligible to work in the United States for an employer on a full-time basis.
Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.
Preferred QualificationsAdvanced degree.
More than the required years of experience, Certified Research Administrator and/or Certified Public Accountant, experience with a software system transition.
Strong knowledge of OMB Uniform Guidance (2 CFR 200), Cost Accounting Standards (CAS) and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), federal grants management, and sponsor-specific requirements.
Supervisory level experience in a sponsored projects office at a university.
Experience with DEFINE and Workday HRMS/Payroll & Financial.
Salary Range$92,000 + depending on qualifications
