Role
The Audit Manager is a key position within the Capital Markets Audit Services Team responsible for project management and delivery of audit engagements across key capital markets businesses including Global Foreign Exchange, Securities Finance, Brokerage and Transitions Management.
Reporting to the Associate Director, the role will provide guidance to team and support the Associate Director to ensure the successful build out and management of the Capital Markets Audit Services Team. Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to, contributing to achieving trusted partner status with capital markets stakeholders, proactively risk managing by intervening early and offering insights to the business as well as challenging the business on sustainability.
In addition, the Audit Manager may also execute a broader role across the team in terms of executing enhanced continuous monitoring, developing/maintaining a standardised process/risk directory for their allocated business areas.
Key responsibilities
Leadership
Demonstrate strong working knowledge of Capital Markets activities (e.g., Foreign Exchange, Securities Finance, Brokerage and Transitions Management) and the related global regulatory environments (e.g. MiFID, CFTC)Establish and develop strong working relationships and open communication with key stakeholders in the Capital Markets business as well as Audit Management and audit staffTake action to learn and develop skills/knowledge proactively across various areas within the Capital Markets business, and assist with developing auditors staffed on audits including providing clarification and feedback on specific audit tasks and business activitiesStay abreast and maintain knowledge of regulatory developments and industry trends, and assist with continuous monitoring and knowledge sharing efforts across the Audit Services departmentAttend key governance forums and committee’s relevant for capital markets. Maintain active involvement with executive and oversight committees, including as a member of such as deemed appropriateEnsure that Capital Markets Audit Team is appropriately integrated, aligned and operating effectively as part of the broader Audit Services TeamsSet clear and measureable goals and objectives for the Audit Services teams and individualsEnsure that any apportionment of responsibilities within the team is effective and appropriateEncourage an environment of employee participation, teamwork and open communicationDemonstrate behaviours that always reinforce the values and ethical standards of the CorporationOperational
Ensure that deliverables are issued accurately, completely and timely to stakeholders in accordance with the agreed service level agreementsReview, recommend and implement standardised process improvements identified in day-to-day activities ensuring improvements are in line with best practice and corporate guidanceDemonstrate a deep analytical approach by connecting the dots and identifying trends of activities across the business unit/corporate functionDuring audit engagements, assigns work to auditors, sets priorities and monitors activityEnsure audit work including work paper documentation, findings and recommendations and the final report adheres to the Corporation’s/Department’s Policies and StandardsCommunicate and support a point of view to senior management/stakeholders for challenge and discussionAnticipate the needs or questions/concerns of the audience and communicating activelyActively listen to internal and external stakeholders and open to diverse ideas;Attend to detail in preparation and execution of communications; providing guidance to staff in their preparation;Lead status meetings and discussions of initial audit findings with stakeholdersFinalize draft issues and draft audit reportTaking action to learn and develop skills/knowledge proactively, and managing others to developConduct and/or manage special projects and ad hoc requests to support Northern Trust senior managementSkills / Experience
The successful candidate will benefit from having:
Proven assurance experience gained within internal audit, external audit, monitoring or testing functions in a financial institution or consulting environment, in conjunction with relevant experience in capital markets activitiesProfessional certifications (e.g., CFA, FRM, PRM, CPA, CISA, CIA, ACA, ACCA) are preferable but not mandatoryProven ability to work independently, engage with senior stakeholders, and work in a team environmentProficiency in Microsoft Office applicationsExperience with audit workpaper applications such as Teammate is advantageousAbility to adapt and react positively in a changing and dynamic work environmentAbility to work and deliver to tight deadlinesExperience in identifying opportunities to utilize data analytics methodologiesPlease note that this role may require the successful candidate to travel to other NT locations as required.
