Automation Engineer

DESCRIPTION
Provides technical support for a variety of electronic\electrical systems. Perform troubleshooting of high-performance production equipment. Make program changes and complete back-ups via multiple manufacturers PLC/HMI and control software. Also responsible for systems programming of computer control programmable logic controller interfaces.  Must be able to evaluate and order critical spare parts. Maintains equipment maintenance logs and documentation in accordance with SOP and cGMP guidelines.  Completes necessary Corrective and Preventative Work Orders, as well as assigned trainings.  Assist in set-ups or changeovers of equipment as necessary per the production schedule.  Works closely with Operations and Engineering personnel to meet production goals and objectives.

 

Responsible for the electronics maintenance requirements on high-speed filling and packaging equipment, Equipment component prep, sterilization tunnels and ovens, process support systems and vision systems.  Responsible for developing the automation solution supporting the to-be process using various automation technologies Keep licenses (software & Firmware) current for all systems Assembles and/or modifies complex components and systems Checks out newly installed equipment to evaluate system performance under actual operation conditions Communicate within and through the Facilities / Engineering and Manufacturing departments Analysis of equipment repairs/solutions and recommendation Provides technical support for a variety of electronic\electrical systems Lead project integration activities (set architecture, perform and coordinate the programming, configuration and testing of vision systems, PLC systems, HMI, SCADA and Batch and the historian and Reports applications) Daily job duties include detailed design generation, documentation, implementation, system integration, system testing, troubleshooting, and on-site start-up Work closely with and receive technical direction from process and design engineers operations personnel This position demands a team player who can work well with others while focusing on project execution and daily maintenance activities Regular and predictable onsite attendance and punctuality. Maintains, troubleshoots, and repairs PCL, HMIs and automation issues on all production equipment on the sterile filling and packaging lines and all critical utilities to minimize production downtime. Repairs, programs PLC, HMI, adjusts, downloads and troubleshoot plant wide equipment. Performs preventative maintenance on all assigned equipment. Maintains equipment maintenance logs and documentation in accordance with SOP and cGMP guidelines. Maintains all in-house PLCs, HMIs downloads including documentation. Maintains PLC, software& upgrades test and repair equipment in a high state of readiness. Must be able to be gown qualified and maintain gowning status. Programs logic controller and makes changes to existing programs as directed by supervision. Performs other duties as directed by management personnel. Must be able to be gowned qualified and maintain gowning status.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

BS/AAS/BA in Science, Engineering or Software Programming preferred

 

EXPERIENCE

Five (5) years maintenance experience maintaining and troubleshooting high-speed equipment, computer programming, process controls and PLCs, HMIs, Software and various automation system. cGMPs experience a plus

 

SKILLS

Knowledge of PLC and HMI programming in Allen Bradley and Siemens a plus Ability to read electrical prints and P&IDs Ability to communicate with manufacturers worldwide for support. Knowledge of vision systems (Cognex, Systech) a plus Must have a thorough knowledge troubleshooting equipment to include PLC, HMIs, automation programs and downloading of upgraded software Excellent knowledge required in use of other automation equipment under their cognizance Experience in equipment Corrective Maintenance, Preventative Maintenance and spare part systems (SAP) Industrial Automation and Controls experience required
