JOB SUMMARY

The Automation Engineer supports Product Development and Engineering through designing and building fixtures and automating product testing. The fixture development and automation team designs, builds, and automates the mechanical and electrical systems of new and existing test lab fixtures. Designing and developing mechanical mechanisms, generating mechanical assemblies (CAD), programming (PLCs, Robots, etc.), wiring, and debugging are the normal tasks that are done on a regular basis. An ideal candidate has a strong aptitude for developing mechanical and electrical solutions based on a given challenge or requirement.

RESPONSIBILITIES / SKILLS

MECHANICAL

Design mechanical systems for new, or modify existing, automated machinery to automate testing processes.Knowledgeable in 3D CAD software, Solidworks or NX preferred.Proficient machining skills.Mechanically inclined, strong problem-solving skills, hands-on individual.

ELECTRICAL

Proficient understanding of circuits/electronics.Proficient understanding of AC vs DC power electronics.Proficient understanding of sensors and actuators used in automation.Design and specify electrical components for custom automated fixtures.Proficient in the use of typical lab equipment (Multimeters, Various Instrumentation, Power Supplies, Data Acquisition Systems, Power Analyzers, etc.) LabView and PLC experience a plus.Ability to assemble mechanical and electrical systems.

SOFTWARE/PROGRAMING

Advanced knowledge of Word, Excel, & Power Point.Knowledgeable of National Instruments, Allen-Bradley, and Mitsubishi PLCs and programmingKnowledgeable of HMI programing.Knowledgeable of Ignition or other SCADA.Basic knowledge of LabView.

PROJECT MANAGEMENT

Demonstrated project management skills -- must be organized and pay excellent attention to detail.Manage individual project budgets and schedules and routinely report progress.Coordinate with other engineers to ensure design intent and cost effectiveness of production are achieved.Establish technical manuals, drawings, models, training documentation, preventative maintenance plans and troubleshooting guides for newly established automated equipment/processes

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Minimum BS degree (preferred) in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, Automation, or a similar/equivalent field experience4-7 Years of Experience

OTHER REQUIREMENTS

Ability to travel 5%

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Maintain stationary position around 50% of time for computer work.

Must be able to lift 50 pounds on occasion.

Regular talking and hearing.

Regular typing on a keyboard.

Frequent standing and walking indoors and outdoors.

Occasional stooping and bending.
