Position Summary:

The Automation Engineer II is a member of a rubber molding manufacturing engineering team comprised of process, tooling, and automation engineers. The Automation Engineer II is responsible for ensuring both semi-automated and automated process steps perform to support plant objectives and goals. The automation engineer will be responsible for all elements of the equipment lifecycle including, design, integration, validation, and process performance.

Key Responsibilities:

Responsible for uptime and performance of vision inspection machines, slitters, molding presses, ultrasonic cleaners and other equipment used in the flashless rubber molding manufacturing process. Responsible for troubleshooting electrical, mechanical, and controls system of equipment with minimal oversight. Responsible for the design, sourcing, acceptance, validation of new equipment and upgrades to existing equipment. A successful candidate will also be able to manage development timelines with equipment integrators. Responsible for identifying equipment improvement opportunities and proposing solutions with justification and ROI. Responsible for ensuring equipment has capacity and is capable of meeting customer specifications, quality requirements, inspection requirements, and yield performance. May serve as a subject matter expert with clients on projects. Assist with preparation of proposals and quotations for clients; interface as needed to resolve questions in a timely manner. Present KPI’s in daily stand-up meetings and weekly departmental meetings. May lead or assist in the preparation and maintenance of project plans to satisfy milestones, deadlines, and budgets, with required actions for new production launches. Reliable, consistent and punctual attendance is an essential function of the job.

Must Have:

Bachelor’s Degree required with 5 years of experience, or a combination of education and relevant work experience, in a manufacturing & engineering environment with mechanical design responsibility Must be skilled In PLC Programming (Allen Bradley/Keyence/Omron) HMI Programming Robotics Machine vision (Keyence/Cognex) Data collection Electrical and Mechanical troubleshooting Equipment validation Preferred understanding of project management tools and principles Must maintain high ethical standards Must demonstrate good organizational skills Must be able to read, write and speak fluent English Strong computer skills, including CAD (Solidworks or Fusion), MS Office suite and MS Project Must be able to fully interpret technical drawings, blueprints, specifications & illustrations Strong analytical skills, must be able to obtain, evaluate, and apply secondary information Ability to learn and apply new technology Technical report preparation and formal presentation skills Willingness to travel, approximately 10%
