Automation Engineer - Warehousing & Processing

Hybrid This role is categorized as hybrid. This means the successful candidate is expected to report to the Davison Customer Care Aftersales Processing Center, Burton MI three times per week, at minimum [or other frequency dictated by the business

GM’s Customer Care and Aftersales Team with Warehouse and Distribution is on a journey we call ReImagine!  The team is redesigning and reinventing the way we process and distribute aftermarket parts to launch our Operations forward as a benchmark for the entire industry.

We are seeking an individual with an engineering background who specializes in Equipment and process design to join our Customer Care & Aftersales Re-Imagine Engineering and Launch team within the Supply Chain, Warehousing Organization

You will work closely with a multidisciplinary team of operations, supply chain experts and engineers to create innovative solutions that enhance the performance, reliability, and safety of our processes systems.

You will play a key role in advancing our automation capabilities and ensuring that our mechanical systems are at the forefront of the warehousing and distribution industry.

What You’ll Do:

Responsible for working with OEM’s and Integrators to design and optimize mechanical systems that improve the Safety and productivity of the unitizing and processing operations.

Develop SORs and project management for tools, processes, workstations or specific technologies

Design and analyze mechanical systems and components using FEA and CAE tools.

Design, construction, integration, plant installation, successful launch and continuous improvement of equipment and tools required in plants for the production of high quality parts

Optimize mechanical designs to meet performance, reliability, and safety requirements.

Collaborate with hardware, software, and control teams to ensure seamless integration of mechanical systems.

Conduct tests and evaluations to validate the performance and reliability of mechanical designs.

Participate in feasibility studies and prototyping to explore new technologies and methodologies.

Provide technical guidance and support to other teams within the organization.

Provide technical direction to and oversight of outside vendor sources

Additional Job Description

Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications):

Bachelors of Science in Engineering, or related technology field

3-5 + years of experience in designing and launching mechanical systems using CAE tools

Strong knowledge of mechanical design principles and analysis techniques.

Experience in optimizing mechanical designs to meet performance, reliability, and safety requirements.

Experience in conducting tests and evaluations to validate mechanical designs.

Experience with investment business case creation and financial oversite of project management

What Will Give You A Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications):

Master's of Science in Engineering or related technology field

Experience in the robotics or automation industry.

Knowledge of advanced FEA and CAE methodologies and tools.

Experience in prototyping and feasibility studies.

Familiarity with the latest trends and technologies in mechanical engineering and robotics

Expert knowledge of mechanical systems (Robotics, Conveyors, Servos, Mechanical Drives and Tooling)

Knowledge of process equipment operations, sequence, error proofing and diagnostic capabilities
