What will you do?

Join Siemens as an Automation Service Specialist and lead the engineering, programming, configuration, service and support of DCS and PLC solutions for our customers in Western Canada. Based in Edmonton, you will be essential in delivering end-to-end automation services, representing Siemens, and ensuring the successful deployment of automation solutions.

Engineer, program, and configure DCS and PLC solutions for customers, overseeing projects from start to finish. Perform onsite service and migration projects for Siemens equipment at customer sites and in the office as required. Deliver expert technical support, coaching, and guidance to end users and Field Service Representatives. Provide technical support to pre-sales and sales functions as required to support the western sales team. Prepare timely documentation, including service reports, timesheets, expense reports, and project documentation for all assignments. Identify and pursue additional chargeable opportunities, including T&M, system extensions, upgrades, and service contracts. Collaborate with Service Supervisor and Project Managers to plan, schedule, organize tools and materials as needed. Maintain productivity and efficiency in line with set targets. Adhere to ISO9000 standards, customer requirements, and Siemens quality assurance procedures and technical directives. Represent the company professionally at customer premises, establishing strong working relationships. Ensure all work performed adheres to the Employment Standards Act, Company EHS Policy, statutory regulations, and customer requirements at all times.

What will you need to succeed?

Post-secondary education in Electrical or Automation Engineering or equivalent experience. Professional Engineering License (P.Eng.) with APEGA is an asset. 8 to 12 years of experience delivering high-quality customer service in a similar role, preferably in industrial automation. Advanced knowledge and programming skills with Siemens Process Automation Hardware and Software (SIMATIC PCS 7 V8, V9, V10) and relevant industry standards. Advanced knowledge of SIMATIC Hardware (S7-1200, S7-1500) and software (TIA Portal V17 and above). Proficiency in DCS configuration, programming, troubleshooting using CMT, CFC, SFC, SFC types. Experience with process safety using S7 F Systems Library and Safety Matrix. Hands-on experience with PCS 7 libraries, including APL, Industry Library, Mineral, S7 F Systems. Proficiency with virtualization solutions such as VMware ESXi and Microsoft Hyper-V. Familiarity with product families, including PAA, SIMIT, Simatic PDM, Telecontrol, Process Historian and Information Server. Experience with process instrumentation and its integration into DCS Strong skills in PLC program development, engineering, and troubleshooting in SCL, LAD, and STL. Proficient with Siemens HMI Hardware (Unified Comfort Panel) and software (SIMATIC WinCC Unified). Programming knowledge of JavaScript, C-Script, and VBScript. Practical knowledge of configuring industrial networks, firewalls, and demilitarized zones (DMZ). Knowledge of industrial communication protocols, including Profibus DP, Profibus PA, Profinet, Modbus TCP, OPC UA. Strong diagnostic abilities and innovative problem-solving skills. Effective organizational and multitasking abilities to manage complex projects. Self-motivated and adaptable, with a commitment to continuous learning and staying at the forefront of technology. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, fostering collaboration with cross-functional teams and stakeholders. Willingness to travel at least 20% of the time within Canada. Valid driver’s license.
