Job Description

How you will make an impact:

As an Automation Specialist, you play an important role in the implementation of custom automated laboratory projects. This will be achieved through applying Thermo Fisher Scientific’s Momentum™ Automation Workflow software and will include testing & problem solving of automated robotic systems integrated with specialized instrumentation to defined specifications.

What you will contribute:

Team Collaboration

Collaborate with multi-functional project teams that include the customer, Project Managers, Integrators, Designers, Software Developers, to plan and develop an ETO solution to achieve the agreed requirements and deliver effective solutions

Lead discussions with the customers on understanding and documenting their workflow requirements

Share feedback to the Operations and R&D teams to help drive and implement continuous improvements

Technical

Develop automated workflows using our trademarked industry leading scheduling software and demonstrate simulations for customers

Ability to analyze workflow requirements and collaborate with the project team on appropriate automation solutions

Install and configure software required to operate the automated systems

Lead customer meetings and discussions as the lead on the implementation

Configure automation to exchange data generated on the system with the customer’s Lab Information Management System (LIMS) when required

Program and optimize robot/mover motion and workflows using company's market leading scheduling software

Assist in the assembly and installation of the platform hardware, wiring, and instrumentation

Independently carry out basic installations from start to finish.

Become a technical lead on our automated incubator product line and conduct IQ/OQs as needed

Test and address any issues to successfully achieve customer site acceptance test (SAT) approval

Provide basic training and familiarization of the automated system to the end customer users

Ensure systems are coordinated in alignment with defined standard operating procedures

How will you get there?

Education:

University degree or college diploma in Computer Science, Mechatronics, Electrical/Mechanical Engineering, Electro-mechanical, or related field of study

Experience:

5 years’ automation experience, or related field

2 years in a role directly collaborating with customers in a professional environment

Experience with programming languages (C++, Python) is considered an asset

Experience integrating or servicing laboratory instruments considered an asset

Knowledge & Skills:

High proficiency in electromechanical problem-solving techniques

Solid understanding of software and networking

Good interpersonal and communication skills

Strong organization, planning and time leadership skills

Professional presence

Proficient English speaking and writing skills

Other Requirements:

Valid Passport

Ability to travel globally 75% of the time without restrictions
