Job Description

Responsibilities

Considering the business implications of the application of technology to the current and future manufacturing environment. Responsible for business continuity of process control systems (Siemens pcs7 controller) through documentation, training and management-of-change process.Interface with Project Management, Maintenance Manager and Electrical Engineering team to ensure that electrical designs and programming are in-line with overall project objectives.Create a foundation of commonly utilized and proven designs/programs that can be standardized / reutilized.The main purpose for this Automation Technician role is to create, modify and troubleshoot PLC and HMI programs.  Siemens pcs7 and some Rockwell Auto.In addition, this role will handle troubleshooting control systems and, when necessary, help to perform work normally performed by an electrician as well as assist in the controls training of technicians.This role will also be responsible for making programming backups and executing PM's as needed.

Understands and follows all safety regulations and actively participates in plant safety programs.Executes automation projects of various scope through optimization of existing instrumentation and adding additional controls as needed.Identifies parts needed for automation improvement projects and coordinates the procurement through purchasing.Tests equipment for safety, performance, and efficiencyUses electrical hand tools and/or voltage or amperage measuring and recording devices.Selects, installs, configures and calibrates instruments and devices.Performs electrical and controls layouts, updates and creates electrical drawings, prefer use of CAD or other electrical drawing softwareCommissions and Tuning basic Siemens variable frequency, vector, and servo drives and can integrate drives into the PLC and HMITrains maintenance and operations on new systems and updates LOTO and SOP informationDevelops standard work plans for proper setup and calibration control devices.Maintains a clean work area.This may require climbing stairs/ladders, bending, kneeling, crawling, and/or stooping.

Basic Qualifications

Associate degree (A. A.) or equivalent from two-year college or technical schoolProficient project management skills, basic electrical theory, and troubleshooting techniques.Physical Requirements/Work EnvironmentThe employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.The job is subject to both inside and outside environmental conditions.While performing the duties of this job, the employee must be able to position himself/herself to operate, inspect, troubleshoot, repair, and/or or maintain heavy plant equipment.Track record of successfully managing multiple projects and consistently meeting deadlines.Knowledge of Siemens controls required.Knowledge/Experience with equipment used in the production of non-woven fiberglass-based materials or paper industry.  Experience with Voith equipment a plusProficient in computer-aided design and drafting softwareExcellent communication skillsExcellent analytical and problem-solving skillsAbility to determine customer needs to develop project specifications and scopeAbility to interpret and implement specifications.
