Therole is critical to ensure a safeandcost effectiveoperation while protecting commitments to customers, along with internal and external stakeholders.The incumbent is accountable forfront-line supervisionoftheunionized workforceand ensuresthe labour effortsaresafe, efficient, productive, and engaged in theoperation’ssuccess.The role providesfeedbackandcoachingas well asclear directionsfor the teamin order toreach organizationalgoals. **Main** **Responsibilities** **Safety – 35%** + Coachandtrain employees on safe work procedures + Monitor compliance to rules through efficiency tests includinggivingproper feedbackandtakingactionon non-compliance and documentation + Respond to incidents, accidents,and injuries + Support employees,investigate root cause,andreport findings totheAdministrativeOfficeSupervisor + Execute job briefings before every shiftbyidentifyinghazards, working conditions, clarifying expectationsregardingwork to be performed, and continuous encouragement of “Looking out for eachother” + Support andparticipatein Health and Safety(H&S)committee initiatives + Participatein Quarterly Safety Summits + Ensurean environment where employees feel empowered to promote safety and intervene when they have concerns over safe work practices **Operating Efficiency and Customer Service** **– 30%** + Collaborate withTransportation onEstimated Time of Arrival (ETA)and plan placements ensuring efficiencies for both parties + Plan and coordinate withTrackmobileteam to strategically place cars reducingrespotsandmaximizingtimelyoffloading + Collaborate withAdministrationto plan workload based on inbound pipeline + Monitor employee productivityby avoidingunnecessary downtime (e.g.employees shouldknow their current task and next task at all times) + Adapt to changing environmentandmodify plans when challenges ariseto achieve daily goals + Participate inmaximizingassetssuch asrailcars and yard space by ensuring all inbound railcars are unloaded and released within 24 hours, whilemaintaininginventory control and fluidity within the terminal allowing customers to pick up their vehiclesin a timelymanner **Staff Management** **– 20%** + Manage employees withincollectiveagreementboundaries andunder the guidance of CN’s Leadership Values and Competencies + Communicate goals and policies to create a clear understanding of direction and expectations + Have formal discussions with all employeeson a yearly basis + Coach, guide, and provide feedback to employees on a regular basis + Record all discussions related to performance in employee dashboard + Engage employees for positive results **Cost** **Control – 15%** + Balance daily operating decisions to maximize cost-effective solutions + Maximizecostperunitandreducerisk of damageandincidents + Provide recommendationsthat improve theterminal’soverall operating costs **Working Conditions** The role is performed in a combination of office(20%)and outdoorenvironment (80%)invarious typesof weather and environmental conditions.The incumbent must be available to work shifts and weekends when necessary. The role requires being available on-call 24/7 to respond to critical incidences. Due to the nature of the role, the incumbent must be able to meet tight deadlines, handle pressure and manage stress. Decisions related to employee discipline and contractor work are escalated to theTerminalManager-Autoramp.Therole directlyimpactsthe ability to turn assets and make them available for the next loadimpactingassetutilizationand cost control, as well as the service providedtocustomers. Improving these metricsultimately createsthe opportunity to generateadditionalrevenue. **Level of Interaction/Influence** The Autoramp Supervisor interacts with individuals internal and external to CN. Within the organization, the incumbent liaises withTransportation, Mechanical, and Engineering as well as Local Management and Senior Leadership.Outside of CN, the role communicates withcarriers, vendors,contractors, and emergency services. **Employees Supervised/Organizational** **Structure** TheAutoramp Supervisor reports to the Terminal Manager – Autoramp. The role requires direct supervision of25to50unionizedTrackmobileOperators, Terminal employees,and Automotive Assistantsand indirect supervision of90unionizedTerminalemployees. **About CN** CN is a world-class transportation leader and trade-enabler.
