Autotransfusion Technician

Autotransfusion Technicians operate blood recovery equipment in a perioperative environment and perform blood recovery procedures.  

A caregiver in this position works 7:00am – 3:30pm with on-call requirements.  

A caregiver who excels in this role will:  

Collect and document quality control assays. 

Maintain accurate and orderly documentation of procedures performed. 

Recognize problems, identify causes and take corrective action with minimal supervision. 

Communicate information clearly and professionally to physicians, ancillary personnel and colleagues. 

Assist in training. 

Participate in maintaining and stocking an adequate inventory of supplies for the work area. 

Maintain a clean and safe work environment. 

Follow OSHA required procedures for blood handling. 

Enhance education through in-services, seminars and certification processes. 

Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:  

Associate’s degree.  

One year of related technical experience. An additional two years of progressively responsible related experience may substitute the degree requirement.  

Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include: 

Cell salvage experience.

Physical Requirements:

Visual acuity.The ability to distinguish colors.Manual dexterity to handle specimens and repair equipment. May be required to stand for long periods of time.Light lifting may be required.May be exposed to hazardous chemicals, biohazards, radioactive materials, etc.Ability to function at a high degree of effectiveness under stressful situations and with all levels of the organization.Some on-call coverage is required.

Personal Protective Equipment:

Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
