Mitie on Ascension Island is looking for a dynamic and reliable Security Operative to join a small team that provides aviation security services to both military and civilian aircraft. This role reports to the Security Supervisor and is responsible for ensuring a full range of protective and air transport security measures are carried out in line with Military Aviation Authority (MAA) and Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) regulations.

The main duties include providing air transport and general security services, responding to alarms, conducting mandatory checks, maintaining security documentation, and issuing Airside and Ascension Island Identification cards. The role involves safeguarding passengers, ground crew, and the public from unlawful interference with aircraft, as well as carrying out pre-flight security screenings of departing passengers and aircrew. This includes screening cabin and hold baggage using x-ray equipment and preventing unlawful entry to aircraft or the unauthorized carriage of prohibited items and dangerous cargo. The Security Operative will also be responsible for preventing breaches of aviation security in the Security Restricted Area (SRA) and will conduct routine patrols and checks of airfield facilities and assets, including on weekends and public holidays.

The ideal candidate will be capable of working independently with a flexible attitude, particularly when dealing with pressure and last-minute changes such as flight delays. They should be confident in making decisions and reporting incidents to ensure the safety of aircraft. Strong interpersonal skills are important for building and maintaining good relationships with colleagues, RAF personnel, aircrew, and customers at all levels. The successful candidate will demonstrate excellent customer service, maintaining a smart appearance and representing the company professionally in communication with customers and passengers. Additionally, the role requires the ability to handle difficult or argumentative passengers and be willing to undertake additional duties in support of contract delivery when needed.
