Summary:
Under the direction of the VP, Finance, the AVP/Hospital CFO is responsible for providing fiscal leadership for all Guthrie Hospitals in the East Region and supporting the senior management team and the Boards on the financial management of each hospital organization. Plays a vital role as part of the Hospital senior team in shaping strategy and planning for the organization's growth.
Responsible for the following areas, in collaboration with other subject matter leaders: Reimbursement, Managed Care Contract Negotiation, Hospital Financial Accounting, Hospital Cost Accounting and Decision Support, Revenue Cycle, Operational and Financial Benchmarking.
Education:
Bachelor's degree required: CPA or Master's degree in Business Administration desired.
Experience:
Progressive financial leadership experience required, with a minimum of 5 years as a Finance leader in a healthcare setting.
Must possess ability to collaborate with administrators, physicians, nurses, board members, managers and employees using leadership and process improvement knowledge. Strong organizational and time management skills. Strong communication skills characterized by effective presentation skills, written and oral skills, use of diplomacy, and clarity in all communication.
Demonstrate understanding of financial and operational leadership issues in acute care hospitals.
Senior management level experience with budgetary/forecasting preparation and control, systems and procedures and fiscal control.
Experience in hiring, developing and coaching staff; a clear track record of building a high performing team.
Experience with providing management with valuable financial and operational reports, ability to translate data into presentable and useful management information.
Experience with expense and cost control issues, including the development of such systems.
Knowledge of best practices in healthcare finance, including systems expertise and hands-on experience with systems implementation.
Essential Functions:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
+ Financial operations oversight of all Guthrie Hospitals in the East Region to ensure that appropriate structure and resources exist in the department to accomplish its goals. Establish policies and procedures sufficient to support a financial environment where consistency, accuracy and accountability are paramount.
+ Facilitate financial strategic planning, business prioritization, forecasting and resource allocation processes for all Guthrie Hospitals in the East Region.
+ Manage staff through establishing performance goals, allocation of resources and assessing policies of direct reports.
+ Conduct regular meetings with staff to ensure compliance with established practices and keep Caregivers aware of current standards and changes that are occurring within the organization.
+ Prepare timely and reliable reports outlining the organization's financial position in all areas based on past, present and future operations. The information including variance analysis of actual to forecast performance will be communicated to organization leadership.
+ Ensure the timely preparation and filing of federal, state, third party and other financial reports as required.
+ Organize and maintain an effective system of accounting with focus on determining the adequacy of allowances for contractual adjustments, bad debts, related reserves for third-party payers and any other management judgement issues.
+ Coordinate with Revenue Cycle Leadership and operations to ensure revenue optimization, regulation compliance, accuracy, timeliness and customer satisfaction.
+ Identify "best practice" (using benchmarking tools) relating to financial and operational processes, labor productivity, and supply management for The Guthrie Clinic entities which will allow them to develop plans on how to adopt such best practice with the aim to improve performance.
+ Provide executive support to the Hospital's governance committees.
