AVP, Lead Actuary BOP & Umbrella

Overview:
The role is hybrid with 3 days in office and 2 days remote. This role can be based in our Jersey City, NJ, Whitehouse Station, NJ, Philadelphia, PA or Simsbury CT office. Fully remote option is considered for strong candidates.

 

This AVP Lead Actuary for BOP & Umbrella position is responsible for leading the actuarial pricing team for BOP and Umbrella lines for Chubb’s small commercial division. This position will have broad exposure to various functions across Chubb including underwriting, product, analytics/data science, and implementation. This role reports to the SVP Actuary for North America Small Business and will have significant exposure to Division leadership and North America Actuarial leadership. 



Responsibilities will include:

Conduct annual profitability studies across granular coverage, class, distribution, and geographic level dimensions Lead actuarial state filings and satisfy regulatory requirements  Support rating implementation and governance process in rating platforms and provide actuarial production support for existing rating implementations  Collaborate with actuarial modeling team to develop pricing modeling capabilities and set up regular and rigorous model refresh process Develop rigorous portfolio management processes to accurately monitor pricing model performance, achieved rate changes, new business adequacy, and mix  Participate in line of business financial planning through pro-forma portfolio modeling and forecasting  Closely collaborate with Portfolio Management and Reporting functions to develop automated and real time portfolio monitoring capabilities  Manage a team of three and participate in defining and reviewing deliverables for modeling and implementation teams 


 

Qualifications

BS/BA Degree or higher in Mathematics, Actuarial Science, Statistics, Finance, or a related field  6+ years of actuarial experience ACAS or FCAS or equivalent  Experience with relational databases, and strong ability to write complex queries in SQL  Knowledge in a programming language such as Python or R   Predictive modeling experience in Python or R strongly preferred  Familiarity with concepts in statistics and data science  Prior management experience strongly preferred  Ability to work independently and communicate ideas effectively  Well organized and able to maintain good documentation and record keeping
