AVP & Actuary

This Assistant Vice President & Actuary position is responsible for conducting actuarial pricing analyses of the Commercial Insurance Property & Marine portfolios.  This $2bn+ portfolio consists of insurance cover for middle-market companies, ranging from mid-size multinational organizations to single-location private companies.  The role is based in our Whitehouse, NJ office and reports to the Vice President & Actuary for CI Property.  There is flexibility to fill this position at a lower job grade for qualified candidate with less than 8 years of experience.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Work closely with CI management to set priorities for Property and Marine Manage at least one direct report, including setting the staff’s priorities/workloads, and training/development Work with CI management to develop & maintain rating algorithms, and perform dislocation analysis, including providing actuarial rate filing support for state regulators Collaborate with the predictive analytics and catastrophe modelling teams, to ensure accurate pricing of relevant perils Complete annual pricing studies, as well as ad-hoc pricing study requests Engage with business leaders, taking initiative to identify issues and communicate actionable insights Complete annual loss trend analysis, and participate in the quarterly monitoring Support other monthly/quarterly/annual reporting requirements, such as price monitoring Collaborate with various stakeholders including IT, Product Services, and Business Analysts to continuously update, maintain, and document the implementation of our rating algorithms Develop processes/tools/dashboards to facilitate both ad hoc and recurring analyses, and that enable key stakeholders to monitor the performance of the book.  Utilize data-driven insights obtained from our experience to support decision-making processes.

Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree or higher in a quantitative field such as Mathematics, Actuarial Science, Statistics, Finance, Economics, or a related field.  8+ years of actuarial pricing or reserving experience, preferably with experience of property lines.  ACAS or FCAS certification preferred, or equivalent industry qualifications. We recognize alternative paths to gaining expertise, so if you have different certifications or relevant qualifications, we are open to considering them. Proficiency in Excel is required. Familiarity with programming languages and tools such as Radar / SQL / R / Python is advantageous but not required. Strong attention to detail and willingness to learn new tools and technologies. Previous managerial or supervisory experience is beneficial, but not required. We are open to individuals who have demonstrated leadership potential in other ways, such as leading projects or mentoring colleagues. Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills are essential to excel in this role. Strong organizational and documentation skills are required, along with the ability to prioritize multiple competing deliverables and manage time effectively to meet scheduled due dates. Strong collaboration skills are important, with the ability to work closely with individuals from diverse backgrounds and disciplines. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills are essential, along with the ability to provide clear and concise verbal and written communications to stakeholders at various levels of the organization.
