AVP/Managing Director, Operational Risk Officer, Manulife Retirement

The AVP/Managing Director, Head of Operational Risk, Global Retirement, will be responsible for assisting the Chief Risk Officer of Global Wealth and Asset Management in providing leadership and direction to develop, implement and maintain effective risk governance and management practices, and for overseeing operational risk mitigation activities within Global Retirement which operates in the US, Canada and select Asia Markets.

Among other duties, the successful candidate will assist the Chief Risk Officer of Global Wealth and Asset Management with the following key responsibilities:

Communicate the value proposition for a disciplined approach to Operational Risk management within Global Retirement  

Facilitate risk aggregation and reporting within Global Retirement

Evaluate new products, business initiatives and strategies for their impact on the segment’s risk profile.

Promote a strong risk culture and reinforce accountability and transparency across Global Retirement to enable the proactive management of risks and the alignment of business strategies and control activities with the Company’s risk appetite

Through close partnership, expertise and influence, provide value-added collaboration with business and functional leaders within Global Retirement to ensure that key risks are properly identified, managed and mitigated

Roll out key control initiatives to enhance the control environment

Lead risk governance activities in support of the Global Retirement risk committees

Roll-out of a Risk and Control Self-Assessment program: documentation of key risks and controls and development of action plans to remediate control gaps, as needed Development of Key Risk Indicators to track identified risks Review of internal and external risk incidents with root cause analysis Completion of scenario analysis Identification of emerging risks

Lead activities to facilitate the effective implementation of an operational risk framework within Global Retirement.

Required Qualifications:

The ideal candidate will possess expertise in the retirement industry, including but not limited to, recordkeeping operations, retirement product offerings and sales and distribution. Knowledge of the asset management industry is a plus. In addition, the candidate will have significant experience managing an operational risk program for a large financial institution.

The ideal candidate will possess the following attributes:

A seasoned risk professional with a combination of 12 to 15 years of risk management, finance and/or audit experience

Bachelor’s degree in business, finance or a related field

A highly motivated and results-oriented individual with an established track record in building effective programs and transforming strategy into action

Demonstrated management and leadership capability, including knowledge of effective change management techniques to lead the organization through an evolving environment

Strong knowledge and experience in the retirement industry in one or more of the Markets Manulife operates in

Strong program and project management skills

Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including ability to articulate complex technical issues

Highly developed business acumen, and pragmatic approach to solving problems and implementing solutions

Strong collaboration and partnering skills and proven ability to develop effective working relationships with Business and functional partners to influence decisions

Solid analytical and creative problem-solving skills and the ability to motivate others to implement new solutions

A strong moral compass and a commitment to high ethical standards

A talent mindset with an ability to attract, develop and retain a strong team

Salary range is expected to be between

$152,900.00 USD - $283,800.00 USD
