We are looking for a Azure SQL Database Administrator to lead our cloud database initiatives. This role will be responsible for managing and optimizing Azure SQL Databases, along with other platforms like SQL Server, Cosmos DB, and SQL Server VMs. The ideal candidate will be a technical expert in Azure database services, focusing on performance, security, and high availability. This is a leadership position that requires collaboration with development teams and senior stakeholders to align database strategies with business goals.
What You’ll Do:
Azure SQL Database Management
Design, implement, and manage Azure SQL Databases to ensure performance, scalability, and reliability. Optimize database performance, including query tuning, indexing, and partitioning strategies. Set up and manage disaster recovery and backup processes for Azure SQL environments. Ensure high availability through replication, failover, and other redundancy measures.Cosmos DB and SQL Server Administration
Manage and optimize Cosmos DB instances, focusing on throughput, latency, and cost management. Administer SQL Server VMs and SQL Server clusters, performing regular patching, upgrades, and performance monitoring. Implement security measures, including encryption, authentication, and access control for databases.Database Security & Compliance
Enforce best practices for database security, including data masking, encryption, and role-based access control. Ensure compliance with relevant data regulations (e.g., GDPR, HIPAA) and internal policies. Conduct regular audits and implement solutions for data governance and security.Leadership & Mentorship
Lead a team of database administrators and engineers, guiding best practices and technical solutions. Collaborate with development teams to provide database design and optimization support for new applications and features. Act as a subject matter expert on Azure SQL, Cosmos DB, and other database services within the organization.Monitoring & Automation
Set up monitoring solutions for database health, performance, and capacity planning using Azure Monitor and other tools. Automate routine database administration tasks using PowerShell, Azure CLI, and ARM templates. Implement database infrastructure as code (IAAS, PAAS,) using Terraform or similar tools.Collaboration & Support
Work closely with DevOps, infrastructure, and development teams to ensure databases meet application requirements. Provide 24/7 support for critical database systems and assist with troubleshooting complex database issues. Collaborate with stakeholders to design and implement database solutions that align with business objectives.Documentation & Reporting
Maintain comprehensive documentation for database architecture, processes, and configurations. Produce regular reports on database performance, availability, and usage metrics. Present technical updates and recommendations to senior management.Required Technical Qualifications:
Minimum of 10 years of experience as a Database Administrator, with at least 5 years working with Azure SQL Databases. Microsoft Azure certifications (e.g., Azure Database Administrator Associate, Azure Solutions Architect) are preferred. Deep knowledge of Azure SQL Database architecture, Cosmos DB, and SQL Server. Proficiency in T-SQL, PowerShell, and database management tools. Experience with cloud platforms (Azure) and automation tools (Azure CLI, ARM templates). Familiarity with ETL processes, data pipeline development, and big data processing. Knowledge of database security best practices and compliance requirements.Preferred Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Technology, or a related field. Expertise in Cosmos DB, SQL Server VMs, and Windows Clustering. Extensive experience in high availability, disaster recovery, and performance tuning.Competencies:
