Backend Engineer - Personalization
On the Personalization(PZN) Team, we seek to understand the audio world better than anyone so we can make great recommendations to every individual and keep the world listening. Every day, hundreds of millions of people all over the world use the products we build, from Podcast Feeds to Discovery Weekly to DJ. We're a team of technologists, product insight experts, designers, and product managers in Boston, New York, Stockholm, and London.
We are the YAPP squad in the PZN Strategic Programming Product Area (PSP), and our squad is responsible for talk content targeting and showing banner promotions on Home, Browse, and Search. We work closely with our stakeholders in Podcast, Audiobook, and Ads missions to make sure we can continue to reach our strategic goals and find the best content recommendations for our users.
Our squad is looking for an infra engineer, versatile in both BE and DE, preferably with some experience in working closely with ML engineers. As an integral part of the squad, you will collaborate with engineers, research scientists, and other DE/BE in building state-of-the-art ML systems that allow us to find the right audience for content that is strategically important, such as fresh or timely audio/video content.What You'll DoDevelop and implement production systems that enrich and improve our listeners’ experience on the platform.Collaborate with key internal partners to determine how to design backend systems and APIs to meet their scalable needs.Architect, develop, and operate Java services and Scio pipelines deployed to millions of users.Leverage Spotify’s many data sets to create delightful podcast and video recommendations.Be a technical leader and valued contributor in an autonomous, multi-functional agile team.Collaborate with other engineers, product owners, and designers to identify and solve challenging problems, creating awesome sessions for users worldwide.Who You AreYou have experience working directly with stakeholders to understand, document, and develop APIs/pipelines and systems to meet their requirements, driving increased adoption and reducing reliance on custom one-off implementations.You have experience writing distributed, high-volume services and know how to deploy and keep them running in production.You love working in an environment where you constantly experiment and iterate quickly.You believe data is the most powerful tool for informed decision-making.You have a deep understanding of system design, data structures, and algorithms.You care about quality and you know what it means to ship high-quality code.Where You'll BeWe offer you the flexibility to work where you work best!
