Background Check Jr. Adjudicator
Position Description:

Opportunity to join a fast-paced, dynamic, and long-tenured team by supporting the company’s background investigation program and various employment-related initiatives at the U.S. level. This role must be located in the Troy, AL office.

Your future duties and responsibilities:

• Manage general mailbox to include crafting appropriate and compliant responses on behalf of the U.S. Employment Compliance (USEC) team, dependent on inquiry. Will require internal and regulatory research, consultation with internal legal counsel as appropriate, and a need to fully understand all programs under the scope of USEC.
• Maintain critical Employment Compliance tracking lists, such as for contract/RFP reviews requirements, background check audits, etc. Assist with U.S. disability accommodation request process to include maintaining the centralized tracker, fully understanding the process and related regulations, and communicating information related to the process.
• Adjudicate and individually assess background investigation reports generated by third-party vendor, to include implementing Fair Credit Reporting Act process, when necessary, for all U.S. new hires, contractors, and current employees (CGI Partners).
• Manage the entire background investigation cycle to include comparing and validating information in background profiles submitted in the third-party vendor portal and resumes provided through the recruitment process.
• Manage recurrent background check process for current employees.
• Manage drug screen procedures and communicate results (when required).
• Clearly and effectively communicate (both verbally and in writing) with candidates/employees/contractors, and internal partners regarding background investigation issues/concerns/questions on a daily basis.
• Maintain awareness of, and adapt to, enforcement of evolving and multi-layered federal, state, county, local, and international level regulations as well as CGI U.S. policies that impact the background adjudication process.
• Interpret and apply adjudication criteria and onboarding requirements among hundreds of different U.S. clients.
• Establish self as primary Adjudicator and Point of Contact to business for assigned client base.
• Maintain all background check email templates to include making necessary updates when needed and ensuring the updated versions are posted where needed.
• Meet other responsibilities as assigned, such as backfilling other team adjudicators as needed, and assisting with researching and contacting potential outreach partners.
• Manage miscellaneous team projects and responsibilities as needed.

Required qualifications to be successful in this role:

• Bachelor’s degree strongly preferred plus ideally, 3+ years’ experience working in HR-related field.
• Ability to think independently and make consistent decisions that align with U.S. laws, established adjudication protocols, client requirements, and internal U.S. policies.
• Ability to multi-task and effectively prioritize tasks while working in a fast-paced environment with minimum supervision.
• Ability to work independently, while simultaneously engaging in a collaborative team environment.
• Preferred familiarity working with a third-party background investigation vendor and/or an applicant tracking system.
• Demonstrated proficiency working with Microsoft Office suite of products to include Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Teams.
• Experience using enhanced features within Adobe Acrobat Pro.
• Excellent verbal communication skills, including the ability to convey facts and decision-making thought process.
• Excellent writing and grammar skills, including the ability to write concisely, clearly, and logically in addition to being able to provide summarized situational information and facts.
• Demonstrated independence, exercising analytical thinking, applying logic to solve problems, and forward thinking.
• Experience with initiating and participating in difficult conversations with candidates/employees (CGI Partners)/contractors.
• Excellent attention to detail.
• Excellent independent problem-solving skills – ability to see details and how they relate to the “big picture”.
• Experienced in maintaining high levels of confidentiality.
• Experienced and effective in using independent judgment and discretion when making critical decisions under pressure.
• Self-motivated, responsible, and dedicated.

Desired
• 3+ years’ experience working in Human Resources/Recruitment/Employment Compliance related field.
• Familiarity with reading background check reports and background check applications in addition to working with individuals to obtain related and relevant documentation.
• Experience reviewing resumes and/or candidate applications/employment history.

Compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. A reasonable estimate of the current range for this role in the U.S. is $40,800 - $67,400.”
