Job Description Summary

The Royal Sonesta New Orleans is seeking a dynamic and experienced Banquet Captain to lead our banquet team in delivering exceptional service for events, weddings, meetings, and special occasions. The Banquet Captain will oversee the setup, execution, and breakdown of banquet functions, ensuring the highest standards of guest satisfaction. This role requires strong leadership, attention to detail, and a passion for creating memorable experiences.

Job Description

Key Job Functions

Event Coordination: Work closely with the Banquet management team, Catering management team and event planners to understand event requirements, including room setup, menu details, and timelines. Team Leadership: Supervise and train banquet staff, ensuring they are well-prepared to deliver outstanding service. Service Execution: Oversee the setup of banquet rooms, including tables, linens, china, glassware, and silverware, ensuring all details align with event specifications. Guest Interaction: Act as the primary point of contact for guests during events, addressing any concerns or special requests promptly and professionally. Quality Control: Ensure food and beverage service meets the hotel’s standards of excellence, including proper presentation and timing. Inventory Management: Maintain and organize banquet equipment, ensuring all items are in good condition and properly stored. Problem Solving: Resolve any issues that arise during events, ensuring minimal disruption to guests. Compliance: Ensure all banquet operations comply with health, safety, and sanitation standards. Financial Accountability: Assist with managing banquet budgets, including labor costs and inventory usage. 

Qualifications and Skills

A candidate for this position must possess the following applicable knowledge, skills and abilities and be able to demonstrate and provide applicable examples to support his/her competence.

Minimum of 2-3 years of experience in banquet operations, preferably in a luxury hotel or upscale event venue. Proven leadership skills with the ability to motivate and manage a team. Strong knowledge of food and beverage service standards and banquet operations. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a focus on guest satisfaction. Ability to multitask and work in a fast-paced environment. Flexibility to work mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays as required. Knowledge of POS systems and event management software is a plus. TIPS and ServSafe certification are required. Understanding of basic room diagrams for station setups and seating charts for guests

Louisiana State Alcohol Servers Permit required

                                                            

Physical Requirements:  

Ability to stand, walk, and move for extended periods.  Ability to lift and carry up to 40 pounds.
