Overview Houston Marriott Westchase is looking for a Full-Time Events Banquet Captain About Us: About Us: At Pyramid Global Hospitality, we believe in the power of our team members. Position Summary: As a hotel banquet captain, you manage the banquet servers, bartenders, and event set-up staff and operations during banquets and other hotel events. Your main goal is to ensure guest satisfaction and exceed expectations by acting as a liaison between many different parties, including the sales manager, event host, guests, chefs, kitchen staff, and more. The successful candidate understands the importance of performing essential job duties and delivering quality guest service with professionalism while maintaining a high sense of urgency; has a can-do attitude and is proactive jumping in where assistance is needed without delay. Scheduling: This is a Full-Time position that requires open availability, including weekends and holidays, based on business needs. The schedule will change weekly, and will include both AM and PM shifts, to support operational requirements. Specifically, you will be responsible for performing the following tasks to the highest standards: Set up for functions to include draping tables, setting silverware, folding napkins, preparing drinks and put out table centerpieces Service to include picking up food from back hall, carrying trays to function location, serve food and clear the food from the tables Assists as needed with event room setup according to meal period and table needs Performs food & beverage preparation duties such as preparing condiments, brewing coffee, and ensuring workstations are stocked Explains how various menu items are prepared, cooking methods and ingredients Takes into special consideration for any special request, allergies and dietary issues listed on BEO Provides general property information and offers warm and sincere welcome/farewell for all guests Interacts with staff in a professional manner, assisting event staff and other departments with necessary information Ensures final quality check on food and beverage items prior to serving guests Monitors assigned tables for customer satisfaction, quality, and additional service Addresses any guest issue promptly and with high concern, and immediately informing kitchen and manager Follow sanitary rules and food safety regulations Complete ongoing required training and development to maximize potential. Follow company procedures and follow required best practices and exceed brand standards. Maintains constant awareness of safety issues, (i.e. broken glass, frayed electrical cords, leaks, broken locks and suspicious persons) * This list is not all inclusive, additional job functions will be shared during interviews. SUPPORTIVE FUNCTIONS: The hotel functions seven (7) days a week and twenty-four (24) hours per day. Due to the seasonal nature and business hours of a hotel, candidates must realize it may be necessary to move an employee from their accustomed shift as business demands. All associates are expected to perform any other duties as requested by management to support other departments and/or operational requirements. Qualifications Bilingual: Ability to speak, hear, and comprehend instructions in both Spanish and English language. Strong communication skills, both written and oral, with ability to convey information and ideas clearly to staff and guest alike. Ability to thrive in high-pressure environments and respond with a sense of urgency when necessary. Moves about the hotel and banquet areas including but not limited to, ballrooms, salons, meeting rooms, and pavilions, for duration of 8-hour shift. Extend arms; frequent reaching, twisting, pulling, bending, and stooping and moving up to 50 lbs. to perform essential job functions. Repeatedly ascend/descend stairs moving server trays and glassware up to 50 lbs. Ability to observe and adhere to all Health and Safety regulations and company guidelines for food handling, cross-contamination protocols, and sanitation. Knowledge of key guest service behaviors. Enjoy working with others - this position not only interfaces daily with hotel guests and team members in banquets, but with the kitchen, engineering, guest relations, sales, and many different hotel associates. Experience Previous banquet captain experience Licenses or Certificates. Ability to provide or obtain the Texas Food Safety Handler Certificate. Ability to provide or obtain the Texas TABC Certification License. Grooming/Uniforms All employees must maintain a neat, clean and well-groomed appearance.
