Barista/Cashier

Job Summary

The Barista / Cashier is responsible for creating a personable and memorable experience for all guests by providing them with top-notch service, quality beverages and food, as well as ensuring the café is a comfortable environment for all customers. 

Duties & Responsibilities

Consistently provide quality beverages and food by following FIFO (first in, first out) procedures, reviewing expiration dates and inspecting for freshness. Operate cash register to handle food and beverage transactions. Ensure transactions are processed in a timely manner Ensure products are labeled, stocked and organized in the café.  In-depth knowledge of all food and beverage products sold and their ingredients.  Highlight café items and recommend pairings to customers based on purchases.  Act with integrity, honesty and knowledge always.  Maintain a calm demeanor during high volume periods or atypical events.  Communicate with guests using clear and enthusiastic words, tone and body language. Make guests feel welcome and appreciated. Anticipate and respond to guest’s questions and needs. Assist training new team members by positively reinforcing standards and performance; give respectful and encouraging coaching as needed. Follow all policies and procedures to ensure the safety and security of all. Maintain a clean and organized workplace at all times. Follow health, safety, and sanitation guidelines for all products.  Maintain regular and punctual attendance.  Other duties as assigned.

Education

High school diploma or GED.

Compensation

The anticipated range for this position is $16 - $19p/hr. Actual placement within the range is dependent on multiple factors, including but not limited to skills, education, and experience.

Physical requirements/Work Environment 

This position primarily operates behind the café counter in close proximity to co-workers. The noise level in the work environment can be loud. Hazards may include, but are not limited to, cuts, slipping and tripping. It requires constant standing and walking; continuous reaching, bending, lifting, carrying, stooping, and wiping; ability to remain stationary for long periods of time; frequent hand-washing; ability to manipulate fingers, hands, and arms to cut, measure, pour, serve, carry, and wipe; ability to hear and talk; have good close and distance vision and ability to focus between the two. Should be able to stand long hours. Occasionally required to sit; climb or balance; and stoop or kneel. Must frequently lift and/or move objects up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move objects up to 30 pounds.
