BAS Engineering Intern

Job Overview

We are looking for a motivated BAS Engineering Intern to join our team in San Jose, CA. This internship offers hands-on experience with Building Automation Systems that support HVAC, lighting, energy management, and other smart building technologies. As an intern, you’ll work alongside experienced BAS engineers and project managers to support the design, programming, and implementation of control systems across a variety of commercial and industrial projects.

You’ll assist with tasks such as developing control drawings, configuring system components, supporting field commissioning, and helping maintain project documentation. This role is ideal for a junior or senior engineering student with a strong interest in automation, controls, and energy-efficient building technologies. A successful intern will be detail-oriented, eager to learn, and ready to collaborate on innovative solutions that enhance building performance and client satisfaction.

Key Responsibilities

Assist BAS engineers in the design, programming, and implementation of Building Automation Systems for HVAC and energy management. Support the preparation of control system drawings, wiring diagrams, and sequences of operations. Help program, test, and troubleshoot control systems and components under supervision. Participate in project coordination meetings with engineering, construction, and commissioning teams. Assist with equipment and materials selection and help prepare submittals and documentation. Conduct field visits to assist with system startup, testing, and verification. Support the integration of various building systems (HVAC, lighting, access control) into a centralized BAS platform. Aid in the development and documentation of control logic, schematics, and operator interfaces. Maintain clear records of design revisions, testing results, and field observations.

Qualifications

Currently enrolled as a junior or senior in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related technical field. Strong interest in building automation, control systems, and smart building technologies. Familiarity with control system platforms (e.g., Tridium, Johnson Controls, Siemens, etc.) is a plus. Basic knowledge of HVAC systems and their control strategies. Experience with AutoCAD and Microsoft Office Suite; familiarity with Visio or similar tools is helpful. Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills Excellent written and verbal communication abilities. Ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment. Eagerness to learn and grow in a dynamic, fast-paced industry.
