Base Station Radio Conformance Test Engineer

Role Summary

The role of the Base Station Radio Conformance Test Engineer is to validate the RF performance per the 3GPP specification of in-house and third-party 4G/5G Open Radio Access Networks (O-RAN) compliant radios integrated with the Mavenir RAN. Responsibilities include uncovering, investigating, and resolving defects based on the defined specifications and characterizing system performance. The role requires strong RF knowledge, familiarity with testing methodologies, the ability to understand and interpret specifications, hands-on lab design and development, and experience using RF test tools such as signal analyzers, signal generators, spectrum analyzers, power meters, channel emulators, etc.

The work location is in Richardson, Texas and involves working with test and development engineers across sites. It offers the opportunity to contribute to advanced wireless technology in a fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities

Working with internal and external teams to setup and configure the Device-Under-Test (DUT) which includes radio units and subsystems with Layer 1 functionality which interoperate as defined in the O-RAN specificationConfiguring and testing with Keysight or Rohde & Schwarz VSA & VSG tools to perform Tx & Rx test model verification of various channels as defined in Chapters 6, 7 & 8 of 3GPP 36-141 (4G), 38-141 (5G), and 37-141 (Multi-RAT).Understanding and configuring test scenarios and building lab setups based on 3GPP definitionsCapturing and analyzing logs in support of R&D and cross functional teams during issue identification and triageDeveloping and executing test plans, test procedures and test setups to validate that products meet performance goals defined by specifications, internal requirements, and customer expectationsUtilizing and expanding capabilities of Intel’s TestMAC tool (L2 stub emulator) which interfaces with L1 and provides Tx test vector generation and analysis of & Rx signals to support Radio QualificationSupporting test automation

Job Requirements

A strong background in wireless communications, RF specifications, air interface protocols, layer 1/PHY and well-versed with RF test instruments and RF testing.Knowledge of 2G/4G/5G wireless technology, RF, and networking.Hands-on problem solver, and be able to propose processes, methodologies, and procedures to continuously improve quality.Proficient in configuring and operating test setups with DUTs, signal generators, analyzers, signaling testers, power meters, channel emulators, scopes, network analyzers and other accessories.Ability to collaborate with developers and those involved in interoperability, system conformance, certification, and field tests.Familiarity with transceiver and receiver test parameters as defined in 3GPP such as EVM, ACLR, out-of-band emissions, frequency stability, sensitivity, dynamic range, adjacent channel selectivity, etc.Proficient in making basic RF measurements such as cable loss, noise figure, power consumption, etc.Program and develop scripts for automating testing.Requires a BSEE or equivalent Industry experience is a plus5+ years of wireless industry experience is preferred, but not mandatory
