Position Overview
Aecon is currently seeking a Base Superintendent to join our Aecon Transportation West – Highways group to support multiple construction projects throughout southern Alberta and Saskatchewan. A safety-minded professional with a strong background in Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) and OHS regulations is pivotal to ensure our projects meet the highest safety standards. Expertise in conditioning subgrade materials to achieve optimal surfaces, as well as proficiency in the placement of granular base courses in a production setting, is essential.
The Base Superintendent is responsible to help ensure that the project is completed on schedule and in compliance with the contract and the job cost estimate, and that all the work is completed safely to acceptable standards of quality and workmanship. The Base Superintendent is directly responsible for providing ongoing support to the manual work force in order to help ensure successful completion of the Projects.
Key Responsibilities
Overseeing crews on earthworks and grading projects. Type of work includes sub grade preparation and gravel base course placement Enforce safety policies and procedures in line with OHS regulations Uphold the quality of work and maximize safety and production Comply with Personal Protective Equipment policy Monitors the overall progress of the project and takes corrective action where necessary. Reporting daily of work executed, along with productions, employee time and safety submittals. Working and communicating with Superintendents, Project Managers, and Coordinators relative to progress and ensuring compliance with safety and quality standard
Required Knowledge and Experience
Minimum 3 years of experience in a supervisory position in highway construction Experience operating motor graders, utilizing Trimble GPS systems, and handling various types of base equipment Familiarity with the Occupational Health and Safety Act Must Maintain a valid Class 5 Drivers License. Strong leadership and organizational skills Ability to read and implement construction drawings Ability to build and maintain collaborative relationships Ability to work the project schedule which may include weekends and/or night shift. Willing to work overtime, as required. Willingness to work away from home for extended periods throughout Alberta and Saskatchewan Must comply with the company’s drug & alcohol program, including testing requirement.
