Tetra Tech is adding a Bat Biologist/Wildlife Ecologist to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for conducting bat acoustic surveys, analyzing ecological data, preparing detailed reports, and supporting wildlife conservation projects. Your Role:
Conduct bat acoustic surveys using full spectrum detectors. Analyze acoustic data using Kaleidoscope Pro and Sonobat, including manual vetting. Deploy, set up, and maintain bat detectors in field conditions, including met towers. Perform biological and ecological assessments, focusing on T/E species and species-habitat relationships. Support species-habitat conservation planning and natural/biological resource management. Conduct mist netting surveys (USFWS endangered species capture permit or qualified surveyor status preferred). Synthesize and interpret natural/biological resources information. Ensure compliance with federal and state environmental regulations, including ESA. Prepare scientific reports and present findings at meetings and conferences. Perform statistical analyses and modeling using R, Python, or similar tools. Conduct activities in line with internal procedures, legislation, and industry standards. Pursue continuous professional development and maintain a high degree of discipline knowledge and awareness. Work in a safe manner at all times and report all health and safety incidents and concerns. Additional duties as required.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in bat biology/ecology, biological science, natural resources, wildlife management, or a closely related discipline. 3-5 years of professional experience in wildlife ecology and management. Strong technical skills in field ecology methods and acoustic data analysis. Proficiency in report writing, editing, and oral presentation. Excellent organizational and planning skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks. Commitment to quality management, continuous improvement, and client satisfaction. A record of publications in peer-reviewed journals and scientific presentations is preferred. Must possess a valid driver’s license with a clean driving record without restrictions.
Desired Experience:
Experience with bat acoustic surveys and data analysis. Familiarity with bat detector deployment, setup, and maintenance. Knowledge of federal and state environmental regulations for compliance/permitting. Background in environmental consulting or related agency/academic work. Proficiency in statistical analyses and code-driven scripting (R, Python). Flexibility to adapt to fast-paced, deadline-driven environments.

Commitment to maintaining a strong safety culture in all field activities. Ability to perform physically demanding tasks, including hiking in rugged terrain, carrying equipment, and working in varying weather conditions. Knowledge and adherence to safety protocols, including the use of personal protective equipment (PPE). Participation in health and safety training programs, including CPR/First Aid if not already certified. Proactive identification and mitigation of work-related hazards to ensure personal and team safety.
