Duties will include roost captures of bats, exit counts, and acoustics work. Duties may include mist netting and non-technical caving. The work schedule will vary (including long hours, weekends, and nights, as needed). Applicants should expect to work in physically uncomfortable conditions including at night, in cold weather, and with biting insects. Technicians may be asked to hike long distances in challenging conditions, in steep and rugged terrain, with heavy packs. Position will last from approximately early or mid April through September or mid-October 2025 (6 months maximum). Human Resource Contact: Alice Saldana /alice.saldana2@wyo.gov ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The listed functions are illustrative only and are not intended to describe every function which may be performed in the job level. + Capture bats using traps and mist nets. + Assist in WNS surveillance, including wing swabbing. + Deploy acoustic equipment without supervision and train others in bat detector use. + Drive long distances to conduct fieldwork. + Work remotely for long periods, staging out of work vehicle (provided). + Collect data with close attention to detail following established protocols. + Data entry and proofing. Qualifications PREFERENCES: Preference may be given to those with a high school degree plus 2 years of experience in fish and wildlife resource management, research, or habitat development or 2 years of college course work towards a baccalaureate degree in wildlife management, or another closely related field. *** Agency requires that the successful applicant must have a valid driver’s license. KNOWLEDGE: + Must have a flexible schedule and be able to work long hours and different times and days (including weekends and nights, as needed) on short notice. + Experience handling bats strongly preferred. + Experience implementing the National White-nose Syndrome Decontamination Protocol (capture or caving) strongly preferred. + Experience or interest in working in the field, conducting surveys, and collecting field data. + Experience or interest in acoustic data collection. + Must have a valid driver's license, and ability to operate a 4WD vehicle, on- or off-road. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: None - See "Preferences" Necessary Special Requirements PHYSICAL WORKING CONDITIONS: + Must be able and willing to hike extensive distances and collect accurate data while working in challenging conditions. + The work schedule will vary (including long hours, weekends, and nights, as needed). + This position will require overnight travel accommodation may include tent camping, bunkhouse, or hotels. + Rabies vaccination is required for this position. Previous rabies vaccination and current titer is preferred.
