Battery Lifecycle Engineer
Job Description

Work Arrangement: This role is categorized as hybrid. This means the successful candidate is expected to report to the office three times per week or other frequency dictated by the business. 

The Role
The EV Battery Lifecycle Engineer position will focus on the development and execution of battery recycling strategies. You will work with a cross-functional team to create battery lifecycle strategies for GM batteries to meet corporate goals for sustainability and our Zero-Zero-Zero mission.

What You'll Do

Support GM’s EV battery recycling strategy for GM’s battery materials including the development of closed-loop recycling supply chains. Manage projects in support of executing on the Li-Ion battery recycling strategy such as recycling material evaluations and closed-loop recycling pilot projects.Collaborate with cross-functional teams including Global GM Customer Care and Aftersales, Research and Development, Product Development, Purchasing, Finance, and external suppliers to execute recycling and remanufacturing projects.Responsible for the execution of recycling development trials and the documentation of results to build GM’s technical knowledge of recycling processes and suppliers. Evaluate supplier capabilities and proposals for contract awardsWrite Statement of Requirements (SORs) for battery lifecycle Requests for Quotations (RFQs).Support Lifecycle and Innovation Business Case Development by analyzing data, monitoring industry conditions and developments, and soliciting input from stakeholders. Collaborate with Communications team on the crafting of internal and external communications related to recycling. Collaborate with cross functional team to develop a pack, module, and cell sustainability plan with stakeholdersCollaborate with Pack, Module, and cell Technical Specialists to develop design for recyclability requirementsServe as a representative of the team and General Motors at external forums and conferences.

Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications)

Bachelor of Science in Engineering or related field5 years of professional Engineering experienceTechnical knowledge of EV batteries or related technology – such as battery lifecycle, battery chemistry, cell or pack development, validation, etcCapability to collaborate cross-functionally with Service, Sustainable Workplaces, New Business Development, Product Planning, and Communications departments.Capability to develop and deliver high quality communications to internal and external stakeholders

What Will Give You A Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications)

Graduate Degree in Business, Engineering, Environmental, or ManufacturingInternational technical and business experience.Understanding of automotive service processes and requirements.Demonstrated project management experience with external companiesFamiliar with battery electrochemistry theory and practiceSystems engineering experienceDemonstrated capability to develop business cases for decisions requiring technical, logistical, regulatory, manufacturing and supplier inputs
