Job Overview:

Under the supervision of the Patient Access Services department manager, the Logistic Bed Board Associate is responsible to place patients in the appropriate bed and maintain the accuracy of the bed management system. The Logistics Coordinator is responsible to track bed assignments through bed management system and to ensure timely and appropriate movement of patients within the hospital. The Logistics Coordinator is expected to complete admissions, transfers, discharges and other service level changes based on the orders placed by the medical staff. All updates are to be completed in a timely manner.

The Logistics Coordinator is also responsible for working with the clinical teams to verify and reconcile the hospital census. The coordinator works in conjunction with the clinical leadership in the facilitation of continuous patient throughput from all points of entry and internal transfer.

The Logistics Coordinator performs all job duties in a professional and courteous manner and demonstrates positive and appropriate skills with internal and external customers. The Logistics Coordinator must possess the ability to work with others and maintain a safe environment for patients, staff physicians and visitors.

Required:

High School Diploma Excellent communication skillsExceptional organizational skillsMedical terminology knowledge and computer skills

Preferred:

1-year experience Bed Board Associate/Logistics Coordinator and/or Patient Access Position Previous hospital experience in an acute care facility Experience with bed placement processes and systems

Scheduling Requirements

Shift: DayHours: 15hrs.Status: Part Time

Essential Functions:

Complete appropriate bed assignments based on the level of care ordered, the patient s sex, diagnosis, and other documented clinical needs Review patient accounts to ensure all information is accurate and all required paperwork is completed Utilize the bed management system to indicate the status of the bed, including the tracking of clean and unclean beds and isolation roomsEscalate delays in cleaning services and/or bed status updates that impact bed use and assignment Utilize the Health Information System to update the patients' level of care, accommodation status, admission/discharge date and timeComplete account updates and assignments for observations, admissions, transfers and discharges timely and accuratelyEnsure transferred patients are financially screened and authorizations obtained prior to transfer Secure completed transfer agreement form prior to transfer including all required signaturesMaintain accuracy of bed management system and complete daily reconciliation to ensure appropriate bed assignments and accurate patient accommodation types Maintain excellent communication with physicians, clinical teams and environmental services to ensure timely patient placements, discharges and address all issues delaying processes Attend daily bed management huddles; provide status and escalate any issues Work with Case Management to review issues such as level of care, insurance corrections, add missing or added information Takes initiative within work responsibilities, providing feedback or suggesting improvements that can make a difference for quality, safety or service excellence Maintains a high level of accuracy and quality in accordance to the departments established goalsExceeds productivity goals established for the position and department Attends all required training sessions and obtain passing scoresDemonstrates competent decision-making skills without management interactionMaintain the confidentiality and integrity of patient information following the HIPPA GuidelinesServe as patient advocate at all times, provide accurate and timely information to patients, family and visitors Demonstrates ability to work with others effectively both in and outside the departmentWillingness to be flexible with unplanned assignments as required and applies principles of continuous quality improvement in all work situations Attends required organizational educations sessions, reads and understands the provisions of the corporate compliance handbook.
