Job Summary:

Under the direction of the RN, the BHT I provides direct patient care and participates in maintaining a safe and therapeutic milieu.  Assists licensed nursing staff by performing non-technical skills and assisting patients with activities of daily living and self care on the unit.  Completes clerical and other front office functions related to clinical documentation.  Maintains the team work station when assigned.

Job Functions:

Promotes and maintains a safe environment conducive to healing and health promotion.
Performs active milieu assessment while assigned to safety rounds.  Participates in the safe management of the milieu, intervening effectively with patients who behave inappropriately or who are having coping difficulty, utilizing effective de-escalation techniques. 
Identifies patient behaviors that contribute to development of a crisis; utilizes non-verbal and verbal techniques to de-escalate crisis situations.

Provides direct patient care and monitors ongoing status under the direction of the RN.  Vitals signs as assigned. 

Observes and documents patient information pertinent to patient’s condition per policy.  Co-facilitates groups as assigned and assists in the provision of education, social and recreational rehabilitative experiences for the patients.  

Assists with ADL’s in a goal-directed manner consistent with the program and plan of care.

Initiates and maintains a therapeutic relationship with patients.

Facilitates the development of appropriate behaviors, self-expression, and social interaction.

Other duties as assigned.

High School Diploma
