Job Title: Benefits Specialist
Job Description
We are seeking a Benefits Specialist with strong experience in benefits administration. This role is primarily focused on benefits (75%) with additional generalist responsibilities (25%). The ideal candidate will have experience with leave of absences, specifically California law and policies, and be familiar with processing benefits invoices, 401K policies, and disability claims.
Responsibilities
+ Manage leave of absences, ensuring compliance with California law and policies.
+ Process 1095-B and 1095-C tax forms accurately.
+ Handle benefits invoices, including self-accounting billing through ADP.
+ Enroll and make changes to 401K policies.
+ Serve as the primary point of contact for all benefits providers.
+ Determine eligibility for benefits plans and process disability claims.
+ Administer employee benefits awards, including service awards and Employee of the Month/Year.
+ Conduct weekly orientations, presenting a 20-minute session on benefits.
+ Manage benefits communications, including open enrollment.
+ Participate in meetings with the Director of HR and handle benefits-related reporting.
+ Process unemployment claims through EDD for employees on reduced work schedules.
+ Assist with HR presentations for the CEO, including DEI and worker status reports.
+ Handle status changes such as promotions, demotions, and departmental transfers.
+ Prepare and submit expense reports for the HR department.
+ Compile and report on hiring and requisition statuses, as well as monthly hiring demographics.
+ Participate in the weekly and monthly report preparations and potentially attend job fairs.
Essential Skills
+ 2-5 years of experience in benefits administration.
+ Knowledge of California leave of absence laws and policies.
+ Experience processing 1095-B and 1095-C tax forms.
+ Proficiency in processing benefits invoices through ADP.
+ Familiarity with 401K enrollment and policy changes.
+ Ability to process disability claims.
+ Strong communication and presentation skills.
+ Ability to handle HR reporting and presentations.
+ Experience with unemployment claims processing through EDD.
+ Proficiency in preparing and submitting expense reports.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
+ Understanding of performance metrics and ability to meet deadlines.
+ Ability to answer employee questions and provide support.
+ Strong organizational and time management skills.
+ Experience with DEI reporting and HR metrics.
Work Environment
The position is based in a shipyard in San Diego, a very industrial environment. The Benefits Specialist will interact with industrial employees and work closely with the HR team, including an HR Manager, Director of HR, HR Assistant, and HR Generalist.
