moreDutiesThe Billing Representative handles and resolves billing questions from patients guarantors carriers and hospital departments follows up on payment for outstanding claims collects unpaid patient balances and researches and resolves denied claims ResponsibilitiesReviews patient statements prior to statement processing per weekly bill cyclesReviews aged insurance claim report for each assigned area once per monthContacts carriers to determine status of payment on claims greater than days oldCorrects registration or coding errors as required to resolve claim issuesResubmits claims as required to secure payment including secondary claims requiring coordination of benefitsReviews and resolves claim denials from remittance advicesAdjusts patient accounts for uncollectible or un processable balancesReviews aged AR report for unpaid patient balances once per monthContacts patientssends collection letter per collection procedure once per monthObtains medical record documentation from departments and submits to carriers as required to support payment of claims or fulfill requests for documentationProcesses refunds to insurance carriers and patients for credit balances due to overpayments or duplicate paymentsResearches returned mail for valid address and resends statements Flags skipped accountsServes as back up telephone operator for main department extension as requiredMaintains confidentiality of sensitive informationPerforms daily tasks with speed and accuracyResponds to all customer inquiries in a timely and courteous mannerPerforms other equivalent combination of education or experience Experience with a practice management computer system preferably Mysis Vision Ability to use a personal computer and key calculatorPreferred Qualifications Some college preferred Excellent organizational and communication skills oral and written Ability to adapt to changing priorities Flexibility and initiative in supporting needs of the department as they arise Education Requirements High School Diploma requiredMust have billing knowledgeMinimum Requirements Minimum of years experience in a medical office environment or equivalent
