Billing Specialist I

SUMMARY

The Billing Specialist I is assigned a variety of duties to streamline and improve quality in the billing process and is considered a subject matter expert. The Billing Specialist works with internal and external customers in order to obtain the necessary information to execute the monthly billing process and improve customer satisfaction. The Billing Specialist will be responsible for billing change requests, regulatory research and systems implementation activities. The Billing Specialist will also coordinate efforts with contract administration and maintain records accordingly. This position will assist with special process, reporting and problem identification. The Billing Specialist plays an active role in ensuring that departmental goals are being met or exceeded.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

Coordinate with internal teams to validate billing and issue corrections. Research, resolve and respond to questions from properties about billing process and individual invoices. Coordinate communication between internal teams to facilitate invoice dispute resolutions to external clients. Assist with internal audit documentation procedures for billing. Meet with billing supervisor to provide updates and details about tasks assigned. Perform related duties and special projects/tasks as assigned 

REQUIRED SKILLS/ABILITIES/KNOWLEDGE

Minimum of 1 year experience and or training in back office billing required; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Demonstrated experience with data analysis, problem solving and root cause analysis. Experience in the multi-family industry or bookkeeping is preferred. Proficient knowledge of MS Word, MS Access, and Excel required; general offices skills such as data processing, filling, emailing and faxing. Excellent language and communication skills (written and verbal) Excellent customer service skills and telephone etiquette required. Demonstrate patience and overall courteous behavior when working with internal and external customers. Proven ability to effectively communicate with internal and external management and work collaboratively with interdepartmental teams to achieve desired results; must be approachable. Strong organizational ability; must be able to handle multiple tasks simultaneously; detail oriented. Ability to achieve tight deadlines. Must be a team player. Ability to work well with minimal supervision. Flexible to work overtime as required.
