Biochemistry Research Assistant

SUMMARY

Provide assistance to a study team in the area of low-level blast environment characterization and provide support to conduct research activities, primarily related to assisting with data analyses, laboratory logistics, record keeping and field collection of data involving military and law enforcement personnel during training.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Execute research activities that may include distributing study equipment to study participants, collecting, and managing data, and other research activities as assigned by either interacting with human subjects or with equipment to study the environment of the subjects. Assist with all aspects of study preparation to include calibration of equipment and ensure that adequate supplies and equipment are on hand for study sessions. Assist the senior statistician and principal investigator with data input and analyses to include data processing and conducting analyses using Excel. Assist the principal investigator with sample procurement, management, organization, and testing for Human subject data as well as blast physics related experimentation. Maintain regular and punctual attendance. Perform other duties as assigned.

None.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in neuroscience, biology, biochemistry, mathematics, statistics, computer science, biomedical engineering, engineering, or related field.   Expertise in field note taking and logging detailed experience of field time. Must be able to obtain Homeland Security Presidential Directive 12 (HSPD-12) clearance. Must obtain and maintain any necessary security access and/or background checks (U.S. citizenship required).

 

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS

Experience in industry, academic, government, or research setting actively involved in blast data collection, research execution or equivalent experience desired. Experience with equipment related to overpressure or acoustics is a plus. Military experience is a plus. Experience doing data analyses is desired. Certified phlebotomist is a plus. A general understanding of statistical terminology and ability to put pertinent data into presentation and paper format. Interpersonal skills with military and paramilitary community to liaise with subjects and gather more information. Understanding of military chain of command is a plus. Demonstrates ability to prioritize, organize, problem-solve, and coordinate daily activities to support effective improvement in individual patients. Demonstrates knowledge, skill, and ability to use basic office automation and information management equipment and programs (i.e., word processing, database management, email, etc.). Communicate in a diplomatic and professional manner with research staff and study participants.  Ability to effectively communicate and collaborate with a diverse group of people for the purpose of informing the healthcare team of plans/actions, for teaching/education to benefit the patient/family and organization.  Excellent written communication skills to perform accurate documentation, both written and electronic, of all activity in accordance with requirements.
