Bioinformatics Analyst - Georgetown University Medical Center

The Rozek Laboratory in the Cancer Prevention and Control Program, Lombardi Comprehensive Cancer Center (Department of Oncology) at Georgetown University Medical Center invites applications for an entry-level Bioinformatics Analyst opportunity in a highly collaborative environment to work on multi-omics and genetic ancestry projects for the NIH-funded Disparities and Cancer Epidemiology (DANCE) – Colorectal Cancer Study. The ideal candidate has experience in genetic ancestry analyses methods, bulk and single cell RNASeq data analyses, bioinformatics portals and data resources, and a good command of the R programming language for statistical computing and data visualization.

Duties include but are not limited to:

Analyze genetic data from large populations to identify patterns of ancestry, migration, and genetic variation.

Analyze RNA sequencing data to study gene expression patterns, identify differentially expressed genes, and characterize cellular heterogeneity.

Utilize R programming to organize, standardize, and validate population metadata for epidemiological and statistical analysis.

Create visual representations of data using R programming for analysis, communication, and exploration.

Retrieve and analyze genetic and genomic data from public repositories like TCGA, 1000 genomes and GEO to investigate biological processes and diseases.

Participate in manuscript preparation.

Work Interactions

The individual in this position will interact with Cancer Prevention and Control Program faculty and other GUMC, LCCC and Hackensack Meridian School of Medicine investigators to provide bioinformatics support and collaboration for related biomedical research projects. The position will report to Dr. Laura Rozek and Dr. Batsirai Mabvakure.

Requirements and Qualifications

Master’s degree in molecular biology, Bioinformatics, Computer Science, or related field

0-2 years of required experience

Demonstrated experience on research bioinformatics and/or computational biology projects

Strong R and Python programming skills

Excellent written and verbal communication skills

High motivation and ability to work independently

Pay Range:

The projected salary or hourly pay range for this position which represents the full range of anticipated compensation is:

$47,586.00 - $87,558.13

Compensation is determined by a number of factors including, but not limited to, the candidate’s individual qualifications, experience, education, skills, and certifications, as well as the University’s business needs and external factors.
