The goal of a Peer Science Coach is to promote success in introductory-level science courses by facilitating community building and serving as a peer mentor. The Peer Science Coach is like an athletic coach: they will promote teamwork, and they will teach the team skills, tactics, and techniques to improve the team’s potential. Towards this end, the BIOL0145 Peer Science Coach will work closely with a small team of students who are enrolled in BIOl 0145 throughout the semester by meeting with the team at least once a week to build community among them, both formally and informally, and to ensure they are accessing the resources needed to be successful in their science courses. Students qualified for this position have taken BIOL 0145 and CHEM 0103, 0104 or 0107, have been a BIOL 0145 Lab teaching assistant, have experience using campus resources such as peer tutoring, and have a history of leadership and/or community building.
