We are looking for highly motivated candidate for the role of Laboratory Technician to support the PerkinElmer OneSource Scientific Services within our Biological Media support team.

The successful candidate will be responsible for:

Preparation of a wide range of sterile media, reagents, and agar platesSupport of Media for Automation and Technical WorkstreamsEnsuring the continued delivery of Media to the customer

Qualifications/Personal Qualities

Science background or interest with qualifications in GCSE Grade A*-C/9-5 or equivalent in Math's, Science and EnglishExperience working in a laboratory environment ideallyExcellent customer service focus and ability to work collaborativelyClear and concise written and spoken communication skillsProblem-solving capabilities and ability to make clear decisions and good organizational skills o Self-motivated, energetic, dependable with a clear attention to detailBe a good team worker demonstrating loyalty and commitment to the team members. Ability to work independentlyAbility to collaborate with other support teamsComputer literacy and able to communicate using various platformsKnowledge of Data Integrity and Health and Safety principles is preferable though will be trained

Physical/Mental Demands

The overall physical exertion of this position requires:

Sit or stand 5-6 hours a day in laboratory areasSit or stand 1-2 hours a day in office area at provided PC/LaptopWork around moving laboratory equipment and machinery and in modern office arenas, undertaking several different tasksUse of personal protective equipment in laboratoryWork with laboratory chemicals and samples

Detailed Job Responsibilities:

Preparation of a wide range of sterile media, reagents and agar platesPreparation of competent cellsPurification of plasmid preparationsWorking within an aseptic environmentSupport the ongoing resourcing of Automation platformsReview of site media stocks and delivery to lab pick-up areasTo order reagents and lab consumables as required through the appropriate on-site ordering systemsTo undertake routine lab housekeeping including preparation, maintenance, cleaning & calibration of laboratory equipment such as automated liquid handlers, biosafety cabinets & incubators.To carry out sterility checks routinely.To be responsible for maintaining a tidy and efficient laboratory environmentTo undertake daily liaison with scientific staff and other team membersEnsure compliance with all relevant working instructions, agreed protocols, SOPs and Risk AssessmentsComply with all occupational health and safety rules and regulations. Be aware of hazards and recommendations for safety improvements if necessaryPerform work to the principles of Data IntegrityMaintain QA systems by keeping accurate records of work undertaken, methods used, and results achievedWork flexibly depending on team priorities and support requirementsPerform any other reasonable duties as requested by the line manager
