Position: Biomechanist III

Employer: Hospital for Special Surgery

Position Description: 

Assess motion analysis data for both orthopedic, rheumatic, and neurological diagnoses and the development of patient exercise regimens to rehabilitate or prevent physical injuries from occurring. Manage all aspects of both clinical and research data collection and analysis. Collect and analyze patient data obtained from fitness and stress tests with medical equipment, including data from 3D Motion Capture (marker based and markerless), Ground Reaction Force Vectors, 3D kinematics, 3D kinetics, Plantar Pressures (Plate based and in-shoe), Loadsole insoles, Dynamic Electromyography, Temporal-distance gait variables (via mats such as the Gait Rite or 3D MoCap analysis), Biodex Muscle Dynamometry, and Special Analyses (e.g. arch height index, hand-held dynamometry, arch height flexibility, first metatarsophalangeal joint flexibility, and first Ray Mobility and Position). Proactively provide guidance with respect to patient caseload and assist the Clinical Lead in preparing for weekly Gait Rounds. Work closely with the Senior Director and Clinical Lead on operations, research protocols, strategic planning, and accreditation. Remain current with respect to literature on human movement analysis and the populations of patients served. Contribute to the publication and dissemination of research findings in the clinical and scientific communities. Prepare and present work at clinical and scientific conferences as well as in-services and rounds at HSS. Work closely with multi-disciplinary clinical and research teams within HSS, including physicians, physical and occupational therapists, and engineers. Serve as an integral member of the lab, which evaluates a wide range of individuals including pediatric, adult and geriatric, in a multi-disciplinary environment. Mentor and teach other employees within the lab.

Minimum Requirements:

Bachelor’s degree in Exercise Science, Kinesiology or a related field and three (3) years of experience in the job offered or related motion analysis lab experience. Must have two (2) years of experience with all of the following: Assessing motion analysis data for both orthopedic, rheumatic, and neurological diagnoses; Collecting and analyzing patient data obtained from fitness and stress tests with medical equipment, including data from 3D Motion Capture (marker based), Ground Reaction Force Vectors, 3D kinematics, 3D kinetics, Plantar Pressures (Plate based), Dynamic Electromyography, Temporal-distance gait variables (via mats such as the Gait Rite or 3D MoCap analysis); Evaluating pediatric, adult and geriatric patients; Data capture software (such as Cortex or Nexus), data analysis software (such as Visual 3D), and statistical analysis software (such as SPSS). Travel to scientific conferences (domestic and/or international) required 2-3 times per year.

Salary Offered:

The salary range for this position is $73,029 - $118,000 / year.  

In addition, this position will be eligible for additional benefits consistent with the role. The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be determined based on various factors, including but not limited to: scope of role, level of experience, education, accomplishments, internal equity, budget, and subject to Fair Market Value evaluation.
